This Northern California gas station has the most expensive fuel in the country

Mendocino is known for its Victorian architecture and striking setting on the bluffs of the Pacific Ocean in rural Northern California...

The sole service station in the tiny pastel-hued village, Schlafer’s Auto Body & Repair, is currently charging $6.73 per gallon of regular unleaded gasoline

“They say, ‘you’re ripping us off,'” she said of her customer’s criticisms. “I tell them, ‘If you want to take my seat and my helm over, you're welcome to do so.’”

Not a problem with me. She can charge 50 bucks a gallon.
There’s another gas station down the road.

It only becomes a problem if two or more gas stations collude to set the price. That’s illegal.

We drove from Idaho to California yesterday on US 97. The last gas station in Oregon before the California border (Worden) had regular for $3.38. The first station in California (Dorris) was almost $1 higher.

But that is always the case. Count on stupid CA to charge $1 more than other states and hide behind the “summer blend” façade.

Gasoline taxes: THE most regressive taxes possible and hits the poor far harder. Poor usually have to drive farther to work, have older less fuel-efficient vehicles and cannot afford alternatives.

In LA, SD and SF it takes 3 hours to go 15 miles using metro buses.

Way to go progressive California - your “free stuff for everyone especially illegals” is DESTROYING the poor you claim to have so much compassion for.

It is by area in So. Cal. You might shave a penny or 2 off but that is the best you can hope for within a 10 mile area or so. It does flow so you MIGHT be able to drive a somewhat short distance but it is unlikely.

I assure you Mendocinans do NOT have that option (I have been there). It is going to be within a nickel for the entire area.

From the looks of the houses shown that would probably be pocket change to them.

It’s a very tough drive for a tanker.

“There’s another gas station down the road.”

Not really.

It’s quite isolated, with Ft Bragg being the closest town, and it’s isolated too. Gas is probably $6 there too.

—”summer blend”

My wife’s Prius and almost every other car see a massive milage drop going to winter blend.

And a most unusual history for this BS.
IIRC a single EPA recording station in Waukegan Il crashed and produced totally bogus readings. The EPA Regs made no provisions for equipment failure.

Chicago’s Mayor Daley fought tooth and nail in court and lost.
And we also now are permanently stuck with vehicle emissions testing.

93.3 % white ( I only say this because I’m sure they have no problem calling you a racist if you live in a majority white community) Mendocino’s congressman is Jared Huffman who wet his panties over Lauren Boebert’s gun collection. They should pay more.

There was a time, when they were called "gas wars." I once filled up at .17/gal.

Good times...

Hi.

In the fwiw department, all societies need an abundance of clean water and electricity at a low cost to prosper.

Cut the water, electricity and you don’t have food.

Then government that created the problem comes in to solve it. Just like a manufactured virus.

We live in interesting times.

In California you either drive a gas powered car where gas is sky high, or an EV in a state that does controlled brownouts.

They call it "progress".

I remember “gas wars” very well. My all-time lowest price was 19¢ at a station in Columbia, Missouri around 1971. There’s nothing like record low prices while you are in college!

I was making about $1.60 per hour at the time, so a gallon of as gas was about 12% of my wage. Gas at $4.50/gallon and a $10 wage is 45%.

So, in real terms, gas is about 4X higher today under Biden.
