I just had a 19 y o passenger in my car. He was all for free education and blamed the greedy corporations. He told me he was a busser making 2.13 + tips. I asked him if he was offered 3.13 + tips would he take the job. He hem hawed around the answer about how corporations treated their employees. So I asked him again based on money alone would he take the job. His answer was yes. Then I laid into to him about how a corporation how the company got their money to pay their taxes and hired workers. How nothing in this life was free and that the money would have to come from somewhere which was eventually his pocket, even if sold drugs he would still pay taxes.
What confounded me was that he wanted a free education. I asked him what he was going to do with that free education when he graduated. He said he was going to get a better job to buy a house. I then asked him how his kids were going to pay for their education. He said it would be free. I then asked him how were we going to pay for the teachers for that free education. I mean the teachers have children too and want nice things too, like a house and car and go on vactions. He said from the government. I asked him where the government got their money so we can pay the teachers, build and repair the buildings, pay the support staff so they can have nice things for their families and everything else. He said from taxes and that we need to raise taxes in order to afford free education for his kids. I asked him where the taxes came from. He said from corporations. I asked him how much the government takes out of his 2.13 + tips job? He said too much. I said exactly. He was speechless after that. I then told him that he had to be accountable for his own actions forget about what the billionaires are doing. Worry about bettering himself, but it is okay to dream.
At the end of the ride when I dropped him off, he said he no longer wanted free education and would rethink the greedy corporations. Whether or not he believed it, remains to be seen since he did live in the poorer side of town where his original opinion is a dime a dozen.

Or just take the people who issue IDs to the people who need one.
Most often, I see socialist bumper stickers (i.e., Democrat) on really run-down, beat-up junker cars. It’s obvious these people are hoping Santa Claus is going to save them.
You did a great job instructing your passenger on basic economics. It doesn’t sound like he had given it a moment’s thought in his entire life.
All parents should insist their kids take economics in high school and college.
Naw, there’s no free rides in here, drivers get screwed over hauling entitled freeloaders around who make irrational demands. Lyft and Uber might pay minimums for the rides.
