The Royal Navy ended the daily rum ration to the sailors in 1970.

The Royal Navy is dependent on Americans to complete the other ships to protect the British carrier. So if Argentina retakes the Falklands and USA said no, the Brits won’t be able to retake the island unless they want the aircraft carrier to sail by itself thousands of miles all exposed to the Falklands.

They are not blocking any commercial shipping from or to China. They have nothing to do with any shortage of any computer chips.

No, they're not blocking commercial shipping, but they are providing an incentive to slow down production of chips destined for the West.

It’s just been the coldest April in the UK since 1922. Last year was the warmest and sunniest April/May on record. So it goes.

"I think you don’t know what side by side is"

Of course I do -- it's a very short expression eliminating the need for a much wordier explanation.

"Stem to stern" might have worked, but then it invites the question: why would Lizzy have her stem in Wales' stern?

Trust me, "side by side" is best, FRiend.

Great! Then let's do more of it, and make our own chips.
Why should we ever depend on Chi-Coms for anything important?

I wonder if the Marine pilots and their support crew are eligible for the daily rum ration. :)

Rum ration went out 50 years ago. But alcohol is available for officer and enlisted.

Argentina's military has degraded to a point where they aren't a threat to anyone, much less the Falklands.

Argentina’s military is a joke, its no threat to the Falklands and won’t be for some time. There are plans in the works to increase the size of the escort fleet so that by the 2030s there will be up to 30 frigates and destroyers instead of the current 19, so Argentina, if it ever does become a threat, will be facing a larger navy than it is now.

Even as things stand, the Type 45 destroyer is more capable than every Type 42 destroyer that was sent with the task force, and this taskforce has two of them along with two type 23 anti-submarine frigates, an Astute class submarine and fleet support vessels. It will also be joined by escort ships from other nations making it a formidable force against any potential enemy.

The budget increase is going to sea the RN become a potent force again.

How???

And we have come full circle, Wuli. Your original commment was in response to my comment that quoted Revolutionary who said "The US, Japan, the UK and France all have a crap load of warships around China."

You're China. You have what you consider a legitimate right to something. (Stay with me here, don't get sidetracked about the truth of the statement from our perspective.) You are seeing signs of what could be interpreted as aggressive acts by several Western countries against your activities.

Are you inclined to continue to provide unabated the chips and other items that these same Western powers rely upon for their continued economic prosperity, or are you inclined to quietly withhold some key components in a subtle protest of their actions?

Now do you get it?

You are guessing at China’s actions.

There is no evidence of it.

Everyone’s trade imbalance with China is negative.

While that seems positive on one side it also means China, business revenue wise, is more dependent on that trade than are most of its trade partners.

China knows it is not going to cut off chip exports without seeing Trump-like trade restrictions from a host of trade partners.

There are some shortages of some chips.

Western naval vessels are not the cause.

You can imagine all you want, what China might do. That does not make it happening.
