I had never heard of Linfield University before this controversy, but it dates to 1858 (a year before Oregon became a state). Expensive private college.

I've seen a Japanese painting of a Japanese nobleman conversing with a Jesuit missionary. The Jesuit is shown with a very large nose. I don't suppose the Jesuit was Jewish (although perhaps he had Jewish ancestors who had converted)--the Japanese seemed to have perceived all Westerners as having big noses.

Asians tend to have small noses. So westerners have big noses and round eyes and pale skin. Chinese call all foreigners besides the Japanese “ghosts”.
