The 93rd Academy Awards ceremony, broadcast live from both Union Station and the Dolby Theatre in L.A. on ABC, hit a staggering low.
Per Nielsen Live+Same Day preliminary national numbers, an average of 9.85 million viewers tuned in on Sunday evening to watch a more intimate and stripped-down version of the Oscars in the midst of a pandemic. That’s a 58.3%, 13.75 million viewer drop-off from last year. The Academy’s third host-less show in a row scored a 1.9 rating among adults 18-49 in the fast national ratings, a 64.2% dip from 2020.
For comparison, last year’s ceremony garnered a 5.3 rating in the key demographic and 23.6 million viewers

Cue the Ha Ha meme.
We don’t have to watch the ‘awards’ for best dentists - or best college intern or best anything except these filmmakers...
It’s time for Hollywood to do their ‘awards shows’ like everyone else: within their own profession and private.
Don’t waste our time.
Black and Asian winners aplenty, but this morning The Usual Suspects in showbiz are pooh-poohing that the winners weren’t diverse *enough*, LOL.
I used to say, back in the early 90’s, that I’ll watch the Oscars when there is an annual show to show the awards for best COBOL programmer.
Did Jar Jar Binks win?
He’s my favorite actor.
Variety used to allow comments. No more. I HATE Hollywood.
Our ‘entertainers’ can’t even put on an entertaining awards show - that’s telling. Keep it private... no one cares anymore. Or put in on in DC for our corrupt white liberal ‘elites’...
See tag: We need a better class of ‘elites’ - the ones we have now are more like monied white trash...
what was the box office/ppview take on each of the nominated films vs the nominees in the top catagories for the past 10 years?
I can imagine some reasons for this.
1. People clicked off during the opening intro when the MC woman just had to mention the Minneapolis trial.
2. Many movies this past year were released to streaming services rather than in theaters due to movie theaters being closed in many areas of thr country. So many people weren’t familiar with the nominees.
3. How many people are on thr edge of their seat to see who wins awards for movies they had never heard of?
That’s because Scarsdale Surprise didn’t get nominated. Plus they didn’t have seat savers.
Yeah, okay, let's go with that. Bwahahahaha... losers.
LOL - good one. Too bad ‘the little people’ don’t matter to our creepy ‘elites’...

The show was hostless because Gallagher and Carrot Top both had previous engagements.
Good.
Anyone notice commercials during Oscars were 95% black actors
in the grammys awards are given out to the top selling artists every year (more or less) although the beatles weren’t heavily awarded when they were the top thing going
Rock and Roll hall of fame also favors chart success over impact and influence.
But at the Academy they will give it to something most people might otherwise not watch, skip some nominations or awards for “political” (industry skirmishes) reasons, and ignore the top sellers if they are science fiction, horror, or “comedy”.
Annnnd they didn’t dare try Ricky Gervais again......
Wow virtue signaling and non-stop SJW is really popular.
