SEIZURE OF FEDERAL PROPERTY IN VIRGINIA.

Dispatches to the Associated Press, posted on the bulletin-boards at the hotels, announcing the seizure of public property at Norfolk, excite deep interest here. That immediate steps will be taken to recover and hold this property there need be no doubt.

The supposition here is that the conspirators intend, if possible, to cut off the approach of Federal forces to Washington via the Potomac River, then attempt to obstruct their journey hither by rail, and thus plunge Maryland into the revolution and surround this Capital by the conflict of opposing forces. The loyal States cannot act too promptly.

The day has again been one of alarms, excitements and some despondency. The latter caused by intelligence that the naval fleet at the Gosport (Norfolk) Navy-yard had been cut off by the Secessionists, and rendered unavailable to the Government. Another cause was the generally credited rumor that an overwhelming force was on the way to Harper's Ferry to seize the armory there, with its several thousand stand of arms. It was not the intrinsic losses which caused the pall of gloom to fall upon our people, but the suspicion, provoked by these events, that there had not been sufficient energy on the part of the Government for the preservation of the public property.

So far as Harper's Ferry is concerned, it should be remembered that the Department had no regular troops to send there, and that to have sent volunteers from other States, while Virginia had given no indication of disloyalty, would have seemed to involve, unnecessarily, suspicion of her good faith. Nevertheless, there is much disappointment that both vessels and arms had not been removed from Virginia's jurisdiction, to where there was no possibility of danger to them.

I am now... lately I go from one little disaster to the next. Today I am running a new water line to my refrig ice maker and rebuilding my sink cabinet. Before that my neighbor's tree fell on my property and destroyed my fence... before that my iron levels (are) critically low - which explains my fatigue... on and on. There has to be a break coming down the pike pretty soon. :^)
