Thanks for posting this.
Was the neurologic disease a stroke or dementia?
“A neurologic disease was the fourth-leading preexisting condition, noted among 21% of those who died.”
Good news. If you get your Covid vaccine and show your card to Krispy Kreme or Likely numerous other Businesses you can get a free doughnut, soda, alcoholic beverage, etc.
Sounds like you may be accidentally or lucked into the Mediterranean diet or as my wife calls it, the Med Way of life.
She is 81 now and her weight is the same as it was when we got married 60 years ago, (plus or minus 4/5 #’s.)
A couple of decades ago, we both gained a few pounds following the so called carbo diets. Then, we went to my wife’s Patients Mediterranean diet or as my wife calls it, the Med way of life.
Early in their decades old medical practice, my wife and her doctor inherited several “old” Italian patients. Decades later these many if not most of these “old” guys and gals were still around and active. So my wife learned from these winners in life.
We never diet and basically follow the Med diet. Good beef, lamb, seafood and poultry with basically whatever fruits and veggies are in season in our garden or a family whose business is fresh produce.
She keeps fresh fruit, veggies, Almonds/pecans on the kitchen counter we pass to go into our kitchen. If we feel like a snack, we grab a handful and eat it.
Our exercises are PT routines for bad backs, knees and shoulders. I also walk about a mile a day.
We enjoy our California glass of wine each day with dinner.
Her lab values are so good her doctor shows her lab test result profile to younger women as a motivation.
Basically our siblings live the same life style. One of her Brothers last year on Armistice Day wore his Viet Nam Dress Blues to a function at their Historical Society and donated that uniform afterwards to the society.
As an aside, I hope that every Freeper who reads this gets their BP checked, at least twice per year. I neglected mine for years and it was clocked up to the mid 200s on a covid check last August. It’s been damaging my kidneys for years, all because I ignored checkups. I dodged a heart attack and dialysis - barely! I don’t want anyone else to make my mistake!
It’d be shocking if there weren’t since most Americans have one or both.
