Chronic illness was also a leading indicator of COVID-19 hospitalization, with about 87% of those treated for the virus in L.A. County from last August to January having at least one comorbidity.

So, if you have high blood pressure or diabetes you should not get the experimental vaccine? Have they issued a list of warnings to indicate what preconditions should red flag getting the experimental vaccine?

I really don’t know how useful these statistics are.

49% of Americans have hypertension or take hypertension medicine.

Almost 50% of Americans are obese. (Obesity is measured using the Body Mass Index, and imo the BMI calculator is calibrated so low as to be ridiculous but nevertheless that is the measurement).

16% of Americans have diabetes.

The stats are on the CDC website: https://www.cdc.gov/nchs/fastats/diabetes.htm
Just click on the button on the left by disease state and the stats will appear on the page.

It seems to me that the statistics mirror almost exactly the disease prevalence in the USA. Apx 50% of deaths are among people with obesity and/or hypertension...? Well, unless I am reading things wrong it seems that apx 50% of Americans have obesity or hypertension, or both.

Yes. Just about anyone who lifts weight is "obese". You put on some muscle mass, it doesn't matter how little fat you have on your body. You can be very ripped and the number from the scale will result in a finding of "obese".

While they do cite the percentage of hospitalized patients who were 'obese' (36%), they don't say what percentage of the dead were obese. The lowest cited co-morbidity for death was 'chronic renal failure' at 16%. I can't believe obesity was lower than that considering the numbers that have been published nationally and globally. I wonder if this is simply an oversight the health department or something else.

Earlier this year, CDC published a study that found '78% of people who have been hospitalized, needed a ventilator or died from Covid-19 have been overweight or obese.'

Why African continent has been immune for the most part. Skinny and 40% of population is younger than 17.

Africas population is going to triple by 2100. They will take over all of Europe through migration.

The BMI caculator is not perfect but it is fairly accurate for 80% of the population who are not muscle bound athletes or outside the norm due to height.

What people we consider normal weight today are fatsos compared to 100 years ago.

Yep. If you notice, one of the sub-Saharan countries that has been hit hardest is South Africa. South Africa is one of, if not the, fattest countries in sub-Saharan Africa.

Yes it is absurd. It is just some seemingly arbitrary number as to what the ideal weight should be based on your height and gender. Anyone could (and should) do the calculation and see for themselves how ridiculous it is. If you weigh more than the number you are overweight and if you weigh 5% more than that you are obese. Makes no calculation for muscle mass, bone density, or even how much fluid is in your bladder. :-)

So if they say apx 50% of covid deaths are among the obese, then that closely mirrors the general population of about 43% making it a seemingly useless statistic. Maybe slightly more likely, or maybe it’s just that the same activities that led to obesity led to greater likelihood of catching the virus. Or maybe some other factor not considered.

Obese people cause problems not only for themselves but for other people as well. Black people and Mexican people have high rates of obesity and diabetes and white people get blamed for it. They call it “social equity.” If you want to sit on your ass all day while smoking menthol cigarettes and drinking Coca Cola that is not my fault. This is only going to get worse.

I don’t dispute that, but I’m neither muscle bound, tall, nor “big-boned” and if I were to be in the “ideal” BMI range I’d look like a concentration camp occupant. BTW, I’m an advocate for being fit but that would be impossible for me to maintain.

Also probably the most common conditions for people who didn’t have problems.

I don’t know Dr. Fung but the strategies I have found most successful (I am not and never was obese, but I was self-consciously overweight for a time and decided to do something about it) and I found that by cutting sugars and carbs to near minimal numbers that I lost weight very rapidly, my blood pressure improved, my blood sugar levels went way down (it was never even an issue but it still dropped dramatically) and my cholesterol numbers improved greatly. Just by ignoring the “food pyramid”. Some of it seemed counter-intuitive e.g. eating more meat why did my cholesterol numbers improve?

I am a weightlifter and hang out in the low teens of percentage body fat — clearly visible 8 abs and obliques.

I’m morbidly obese under BMI.
