For many of us who have had ties to the scientific standards and procedures connected to recording fatalities there has been a serious sense of doubt about the numbers of Covid 19 deaths reported by the media, courtesy of the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention. The numbers have appeared to be somewhere between marginally overstated and grossly exaggerated. Finally, these instincts have been supported by a peer-reviewed scientific paper.
On October 12 of last year, a 25-page paper in Science, Public Health Policy and The Law was released that explained, in detail, the foundational reason for the publicly announced fatality numbers and the mechanism by which they were derived. This paper, authored by ten members of the scientific community is titled “Covid-19 Data Collection, Comorbidity & Federal Law: A Historical Perspective.” At the heart of the issue is the CDC and its methods for collecting and reporting the data, a model which was changed radically in the face of the current crisis.
In 2003, the CDC authored and released guidance documents used by the forensic community titled Medical Examiners’ and Coroners’ Handbook on Death Registration and Fetal Death Reporting along with “Physicians’ Handbook on Medical Certification of Death.” These have been the standard for the certification of fatalities, nationwide, for seventeen years. However, in March of 2020 things changed.
The National Center for Health Statistics released Covid-19 Alert No. 2 which changed the way deaths with connections to Covid 19 were reported and tabulated. The revealing line in the alert is in the last paragraph: “Covid-19 should be reported on the death certificates for all decedents where the disease caused or is assumed to have caused or contributed to death.” [emphasis added] This changed the parameters for the inclusion of deaths from Covid, raising the numbers substantially.

Do you ever bother to read the articles that the threads that you comment on are based on? In order to maintain your point of view in the face of articles and studies such as the one this thread is on... one has to be intentionally, hopelessly and willfully blinded by partisan politics and/or irrational fear.
I have been reading the abject nonsense coming from your keyboard for many months now. 99% of the time I am able to keep myself from responding to it, knowing with 100% certainty that nothing that I or anyone else can point out has any hope of influencing your point of view. My mother and father had the first Moderna shot six weeks ago. She and my father are in their mid 80s and had been going to the YMCA every day for exercise. Within a week after receiving the shot she turned from a healthy active mid 80 year old to an invalid who could not make it from the bed to the bathroom without assistance.
In the weeks following her weight has dropped dramatically. Her clothes literally fall off of her and she looks like a little death camp survivor. Her kidneys have mostly stopped working and her breath smells like a bottle of ammonia. Nothing that her doctors have tried have helped. We have been expecting her to die but she has a very strong will to live.
And you have the nerve to say that no one is dying from the vaccine and recite the proven grossly exaggerated statistics that were intentionally made up for political reasons on this forum. Lady there is something wrong with you!
I can see you are incapable of understanding the changes made in the reporting of virus cases made by the CDC.
The CDC violated the Administrative Procedures Act when they unilaterally changed it. The Act mandates they publish proposed changes to the Federal Register 90(?) days in advance, open it for public comment. They didn’t. They just quiet changed their rules and now we have fake death numbers.
Maybe America First Legal can sue them quick, as their first case! Force them to change ot back until they go through the rules.

There's a good argument for these deaths being due to COVID. But we need to drill into the numbers and get information on who they actually were - in terms of age, physical disability, etc.
An argument can be made that since just about every nursing home in this country was in lockdown during the time frame being discussed, there were serious contributing factors.
1. Elderly and disabled people who comprise nursing home populations were shut off from contact with their loved ones. The psychological importance of physical contact and continuity with loved ones for nursing home patients cannot be overstated.
2. How many of these elderly and disabled patients did not receive the treatments, surgeries, follow-up visits - the overall care, that they would normally have had? In other words the mental and physical health of vulnerable people was severely compromised.
It was a perfect storm for substantial increases in mortality - for the elderly, disabled and those who were physically/mentally vulnerable.
And many deaths were caused from delayed surgeries or people that put off going to the doctor when they noticed medical problems. I guess one could say this was caused by COVID too, but I would say it was from the COVID response.

The paper expects us to ignore the FACT that there were 479,050 excess deaths in 2020. This article illustrates what I have been saying all along, that the conspiracy is to deflate the number of Covid deaths, not inflate them. It is not a matter of coincidence that there were 479,050 excess deaths amid the worst pandemic in 100 years. If I am expected to believe that 479,050 more people died in 2020 than expected and the actual number of deaths attributable to COVID is less than 10,000, I expect the author to offer a reasonable explanation for such a dramatic increase in dead Americans and I expect it to be more reasonable than the most obvious conclusion, that they mostly just died from Covid.
The actual number of deaths from Covid-19 as of this morning is 560,127.
It might overstate or understate by as much as a hundred thousand, neither of which changes the interpretation of it being a serious and large cause of death.
Most of the people who contract Covid-19 survive. It’s therefore not unreasonable to think that many of the people who died were killed by their comorbidities and not Covid-19.

The direct COVID deaths, as well as the ones related to the response.

I have no idea how many of the people who died with both Covid-19 and comorbidities died solely from their comorbidities. I was just saying we must be cautious in accepting the official numbers. You seem to be really confident that there were very few (if any?) such people. Perhaps you could explain why you are so confident.
Call me a conspiracy theorist, but as I’ve said before, with Joe’s China ties, it’s released from Wuhan to the USA, the various agencies full of lefties promote it as the end of the world along with the MSM, resulting in massive vote fraud. We end up with senile Joe being run by the Bernie communist camp to create overwhelming economic chaos leading us to the communist takeover. Thus the capitol fence, restrictions on guns, travel, incorrect speech and overall lawless tyranny.

Please allow me to explain. I agree with lepton.
The comorbidities are well known and most all have excellent control medications and/or recovery medications.
For example, Type 2 Diabetes is not a "Fast" killer. With medications, like Metformin, taken "as directed", a type 2 diabetic can live many years.
However, if a type 2 diabetic gets Covid, the combination of high blood sugar and decreased lung function (caused directly by Covid or a secondary infection like pneumonia) could certainly cause death.
The same thing would apply to lung diseases, such as COPD and asthma. Both have excellent control and recovery medications. But combined with Covid they become deadly.
If a person with comorbidities gets Covid, then in almost all instances, the death should be listed as a Covid death.
That said, there are some instances where Covid was listed as cause of death when it shouldn't have been. Early on, Covid was listed if the person had Covid "symptoms". Clearly, this is wrong. A Covid test should have been administered. Also, there were some instances where a person with Covid died in a car or motorcycle accident. This is pure BS.
