my daughter applied to Princeton. She was HS Valedictorian, perfect GPA, nearly perfect SATs, nearly perfect ACT scores. she tutored calculus, played 2 musical instruments, state champion swimmer, speaks 2 languages, lived abroad, a list of volunteer and goody 2-shoes community work.
they simply weren’t interested in a white girl from NY.
Should’ve claimed she was transitioning to male, they’d have fallen all over her, er, “him”, to give ‘em a full-ride scholarship.
Yup, things are that sick today in academia and the culture at large.
It’s actually good news if the “top” schools are moving beyond tutoring, volunteer stuff, living abroad, goody 2-shoes community work, etc., for their selection process. That’s what the privileged suburban kids loaded up on to get in to such places. Tough sports training and musical practice became par for such kids trying like heck to make that cut. It’s the sort of thing that led to crazy grade inflation and silliness like dozens of valedictorians at a single school.
Doesn’t Princeton still fashion itself as more of a research institution? If so, do they perhaps fill their few actually competitive slots with overachieving Asian-Americans who get turned away from the other Ivys?
Where did she end up going?
Wow. Congrats on your daughters many accomplishments. Our high school sends many grads to the ivys and military academies. Never to Princeton. Only one male that I can remember and he was a student athlete.
