I am confused. Isnt most volcanic ash black or dark grey? The area around the base is very white. It seems to be sand or chalk. Did the tree get moved? Does ash “bleach” in the sun?

That pic reminds me of the petrified tree(s) in Yellowstone...some 50 million years old.
