Gene Simmons is done with the Golden State. The Kiss rocker has announced his departure from California after more than 35 years.
“We are moving out of L.A. for a number of reasons: one of which are the tour buses,” Simmons explained to the New York Post. “After a certain point, we have had enough of that, even though we appreciate the attention.”
It’s not just the tourists that have gotten to Simmons. The rocker listed “earthquakes, fires and pandemics every year” among his further reasons for moving.

Instead, the Kiss bassist will now reside in a 12,000-square-foot mansion in Lake Tahoe, Nev.
“The quality of life is better there, so we can go hiking without bumping into people,” Simmons declared, adding that the concept of a “quieter life” attracted him to the locale. Another reason for Nevada’s draw? The fact that it has no state income tax. “Taxes there are also much more appealing,” Simmons admitted, adding that California’s taxes had made the state “inhabitable.”
This isn’t the first time that Simmons has announced his displeasure with California. In October 2020, the rocker proclaimed he was leaving his affluent Beverly Hills suburb because tax rates had become “unacceptable.” “I work hard and pay my taxes and I don’t want to cry the Beverly Hills blues but enough is enough,” the Kiss icon declared at the time.
Simmons put his Beverly Hills mansion up for sale last year at an asking price of $22 million. Since then, he pulled it off the market, performed a series of renovations, and relisted the property at $25 million.
C’mon, Gene, say it. “T-A-X-E-S”. You got tired of watching your hard-earned cash spent on the homeless encampments across the street. Democrat mandates are a bish and now even the U.S. Constitution won’t stand in their way. It’s government-by-tyranny.
I saw KISS in July 1975.
Beat that!!
Yes.At the time he cited no income tax in Wa. But the one party system here is pushing for one. And it is the same one party that has ruined California.
I loved Detroit Rock City. Funny movie.
Their tv show was entertaining and his wife and kids have a great sense of humor. I watched them all when I was quarantined due to radiation.
Having lived on the California side of South Lake Tahoe, I can see why he’d wanna live in that area. But Nevada is a spiritually ugly state.
Am I missing something? The link is to the murder of an American in Spain 2017, not about the Malibu home purchase.
Sorry, I am at the hospital with my wife so I can’t check the link. You can go to nypost.com and search for the article or you should find it with a regular web search for Simmons buys California home
Amen to that
He is a very savvy individual. Also he has Shannon Tweed.
Gene’s politics are all over the map, but he’s a Patriot.
Correct, and he’s damned fascinating to listen to talk. The dude ain’t no dummy, that’s for sure.
It is curious on the North Shore of Lake Tahoe at the Cal/Nev border, on the California side are all these nice little condos and houses on the shore, you cross over to Nevada and McMansions start immediately 2-5 acre lakefront castles. Taxes are the big reason. It would be a nice move from LA to Tahoe.
Gene is notourius for driving revenue from the KISS brand
Makes sense he does not like paying taxes
Gene came out with the KISS coffin

I remember a comedian on “The Howard Stern Show” doing Gene’s voice (was it actually Gene????) ripping on exploitation of the KISS brand.
He got around to the KISS coffin, then explained for extra $$$$ he would get into the coffin with you for 15 minutes at the funeral
Almost had to pull over I was laughing so much!
I think you are referring to Ozzy. Simmons is very well spoken and leans slightly to the right.
I'm assuming he meant "uninhabitable".
Of course, people are free to like the guy or hate him and the same goes for Kiss. Most of their music is all right, but no big deal to me. I would have liked to have seen them live because so many have said their shows were excellent. That ship has sailed - oh well. The opinion of those who rail on Kiss is hilariously irrelevant; plenty of people have superseded them by handing over millions of dollars.
As for Gene himself, I think he is a very impressive individual. Regardless of one’s agreement with his views, music or lifestyle, he is intelligent, thoughtful, very articulate and decidedly driven. He is self made in America, a country he loves because he recognizes that he could not have gotten to where he is anywhere else. Just as with Howard Stern, I sometimes disagree with his positions and actions. But they are his to have and do, not mine. He and Gene are fascinating to listen to.
Could I have done what Gene did? Highly doubtful. For starters I lack such talent. If I could have, would I have wanted to? Again highly doubtful - I’m not wired that way, and I have concluded we believe key things differently. But I am surely not going to say the grapes he’s eating are sour whether I tried for them or not.
More power to him.
Where are you headed?
Whatever his public persona, Gene is a decent family man. We used to see him sitting in the bleachers with the rest of us watching our daughters play in volleyball tournaments in Southern California, back in the day.
Beth is not a song by Aerosmith
I live in rural N Nevada-—about 50 miles east of Lake Tahoe-—
WELCOME, GENE !!!!
