The victim(Santiago) was of course, a person of color. Defendants were a queer-like, just as Hollywood would have it. Then there's the ugly old white guy(Nicholson)going up against the cocky young Ricky Nelson-looking, brash defense lawyer(Cruise). Throw in the black authority figure(judge) along with a strong female(Demi Moore) standing up to the neanderthal men and there you have it. What could go wrong? Don't forget the sexual tension between the 2-they didn't finish. .
Nicholson is the best actor of his generation. Cruise i must admit is very good.
A HIT piece-my bad.
Who is gay?
The 2 defendants. The young white guy worshipped his young black superior/co-defendent. could be wrong but this is Hollywood.
Who is gay?
Of course military leaders are bad. Just like in MASH.

I watched the drill team at the beginning of the movie, then changed the channel . . .
I agree with others that Nicholson and Cruise are very good actors.
With regard to movies, I don't take them all too seriously, nor do I apply a political litmus test to them. They can be a nice distraction from everyday life.
I'm also a fan of short fiction. I'm tearing through some Larry Niven short stories this weekend.
Reminds me of the bumper sticker ‘Question Authority”. That was the theme of the movie. Santiago was the victim they were trying to protect and it was authority that killed him.
Since Nicholson is a great actor I just had to stand up for his statement about truth. Perhaps the film gave us an adequate airing of both sides but their bias is shown when Nicholson just looked so damn ugly. Picture Obama vs. McCain and that’s your formula.
Most people do not understand the military. Once a commanding officer reaches O-6 they start to develop what I call a god complex and they get that because the military allows them the leeway to run their command as they see fit.
Sorry but you can’t handle the truth!
Dunno about O-6. They’re followers. Only generals become politicians. Too many of them.
In the ‘90’s, Hollywood made movies that made me want to root for the bad guys. This, and The Rock.
It’s a 30 year old movie. And it’s not a hit piece.
Remember, it’s “inspired by actual events” which were quite different from what ended up on screen and stage.
Bonus: Remember the Titans is also nothing like what happened IRL.
Boring. Also, the actors probably weren’t hungry at the end of the day, what with all the scenery chewing.
All that movie did was to weaken a country.
If the military was perfect, there’d be no need for MPs, the Army CID, the Navy NCIS, or the JAG Corps.
Believe me, there are plenty of scofflaws in the military...making the above organizations necessary.
Strange things really do happen in the peacetime military.
