Cancer and gunshot deaths are at or slightly above normal levels. Same for heart attacks. There were an additional 500,000 deaths beyond normal in 2020.
2.8 million in 2019. 3.3 million in 2020. Normal year-over-year increases are 0.3% - 0.7%. 2020 saw a 17.6% increase in deaths.
If suicides jumped by 20%, that would increase suicide deaths by <10,000. If drug overdoses jumped by 20%, that would increase drug overdose deaths by ~14,000. Neither of those is over 500,000.
