Rebuild it...so we can shut it down anytime we want
One of the points Jeffrey Tucker made in an article I recently posted is that they have destroyed something essential to capitalism and the development of capital: legal certainty and certainty of the future.
People only invest based on their expectations for the future, and the same is true for any other form of capital building, including human capital. People only study to become mechanics or dancers or whatever because they expect that they are investing their time in a future reward for their labors. And they need to feel they have the right to do so, made up of all the other rights and freedoms (speech, movement, association, etc.)
The government just showing it can shut all of this down and take all of it away from you at any time the government feels like it has completely destroyed this essential condition of capitalism, certainty of the future and the certainty of the law.
We just saw our Constitution and its guarantees abruptly suspended and we saw the future suddenly become unpredictable, entirely dependent on the whim of the government and out of our reasonable control.
“Rebuilding” must include preventing this from ever happening again.
