Dear "libertylover",
Knowing of your concerns about voter fraud and irregularities during the 2020 presidential election, I want to take the opportunity to share with you some of the steps I am taking as your representative in Congress to reform our election system and secure the future of American democracy.
Allegations of fraud and other irregularities arising out of the 2020 presidential election dealt a devastating blow to Americans’ confidence in our electoral process. While most of the national media and social media platforms ignored, censored, or falsely reported no evidence of fraud or other irregularities, serious legal and constitutional questions have been raised about the manner in which elections were conducted in many states.
Affidavits, witness testimony, in both judicial and legislative proceedings, video recordings, and press reports have been cited as evidence of voting irregularities and fraud. Both Georgia and Pennsylvania altered state mail-in ballot election laws without legislative authority, likely violating Article II, Section 1, Clause 2 of the U.S. Constitution, which provides that each state shall appoint electors “in such manner as the Legislature thereof may direct.” The Commonwealth of Kentucky also altered its mail-in ballot rules due to the COVID-19 pandemic. Importantly, however, the Kentucky General Assembly specifically authorized these changes by overriding Governor Beshear’ s veto and requiring him to agree to a plan with our Secretary of State, Michael Adams.
Every legal vote should be counted, any illegal vote should be excluded from the count, and every count should be verified. This is what any healthy democracy requires. Yet millions of Americans do not trust that this is what happened in the 2020 presidential election.
This lack of trust should persuade Congress of the necessity of a commission or task force to fully investigate the irregularities, allegations of fraud and abrupt changes to state mail-in ballot rules in the 2020 election and make recommendations how the states and the federal government can strengthen confidence in the integrity of our voting process going forward. So far, the liberal policies of Speaker Nancy Pelosi and the Democrat majority in Congress do not demonstrate interest in working with Republicans to pursue such an independent investigation. So, I continue to urge House Republican leadership to establish such a panel, even if Democrats do not participate.
I am also an original cosponsor of the Save Democracy Act, which would prohibit or reform current practices that weaken the security, oversight and administration of elections for federal office. In general, the conduct of elections is a matter of state law, and I believe federalism and state control of elections contributes to and enhances the security and integrity of all elections. However, as we witnessed in 2020, many state and local election officials failed to discharge their duties in a manner in which all Americans, in all states, could have confidence that their vote was not cancelled by an illegal vote elsewhere. Therefore, I believe a federal law, like the Save Democracy Act, is needed to establish national, uniform standards to enhance federal election integrity in three key areas: (1) voter registration; (2) casting of ballots; and (3) tabulation of ballots.
In the area of voter registration, the Save Democracy Act would: • Prohibit automatic voter registration in federal elections; • Require voter citizenship verification to register to vote in federal elections; • Require full Social Security Numbers (SSN) to register to vote in federal elections; and • Require federal courts to notify state election officials when an individual is excused from jury duty because they are not a citizen. To improve confidence in the casting of ballots, the Save Democracy Act would: • Prohibit states from sending out unrequested absentee ballots for federal elections; • End the practice of “ballot harvesting” by barring anyone other than the voter, an election official, or the post office from submitting a ballot to a polling location during federal elections; • Prohibit the use of public ballot collection boxes in federal elections; • Require that absentee ballots be received by the close of Election Day for federal elections; • Require a voter to provide proof of identification for absentee voting and in-person voting in federal elections, creating equal treatment for all ballots; • Require voters to produce a matching SSN printed on their ballot for federal elections and require election officials to cross-check the SSN on a ballot with the voter’s registration and submit such data to Congress; and • Maintain current protections for military and overseas voters. To ensure the integrity of the tabulation of ballots, the Save Democracy Act would: • Require that at least two representatives of each presidential campaign in a general election be permitted to meaningfully observe polls and vote counting operations; • Require that ballot counting, once begun, continue until completed, without any pauses or delays; and • Require the audit of ballot tabulation systems within the 30-day period following a federal election.
The American people deserve to have confidence in the integrity of their elections, and they should never be forced to doubt that their elections are conducted in a free and fair way. For these reasons, I will continue to advocate for a commission to investigate irregularities in the 2020 election and for enactment of the Save Democracy Act, or similar legislation, to protect our democracy. And when the liberal policies in Congress block our efforts, we will be able to point to the need for the states to use the Save Democracy Act as a template for reform on a state-by-state basis and for the people to elect new leadership in Congress so that we can establish national, uniform rules for federal elections, and prevent what happened in 2020 from ever happening again.
Thank you again for taking the time to reach out about this issue. I hope you will never hesitate to contact my office if we can ever be of assistance. For example, if you are facing a challenge working with a federal agency or would like to get in touch with me or my staff, please contact my office in Lexington. You can share your thoughts with me or find out more about the services my office provides by visiting my website www.barr.house.gov or calling my Lexington office at (859) 219-1366.
Again, thank you for contacting my office. Sincerely,
Andy Barr Member of Congress
I'm mostly good with this except "Require voters to produce a matching SSN printed on their ballot.
I offer it for your comments.
Save the Republic.
I agree with Andy Barr, and I also agree with you regarding the Social Security numbers. I could live with the disclosing of the last four digits, however. It will take a Republican congress to pass this. Pelosi will never let this move off her desk.
(T)he first step in the revolution by the working class is to raise the proletariat to the level of ruling class to win the battle of democracy.I would feel slightly better if this were titled the “Save The Republic Act”, but only slightly. The Uniparty and its Kabuki actors agree with Woodrow Wilson to the effect of socialism and democracy being the exact same thing.
— Communist Manifesto
What will be the course of this revolution? Above all, it will establish a democratic constitution, and through this, the direct or indirect dominance of the proletariat. […] In America, where a democratic constitution has already been established, the communists must make the common cause with the party which will turn this constitution against the bourgeoisie and use it in the interests of the proletariat—that is, with the agrarian National Reformers. …
— The Principles of Communism
… (I)t is very clear that in fundamental theory, socialism and democracy are almost, if not quite, one and the same. They both rest at bottom upon the absolute right of the community to determine its own destiny and that of its members. Men as communities are supreme over men as individuals. …
— Woodrow Wilson
Except for all the throwing entire SSN’s around like candy from a piñata it looks OK. “Last 4” of your SSN should be PLENTY sufficient; it works at the VA.
EXTREMELY unlikely two same-named voters world share the same Last 4 AND love in the same precinct, so...yeah.
Re: your bugaboo on ‘ID’:
Buy booze, buy guns, buy smokes, buy bar drinks, renew state ID-drivers license, doctors offices, cash a check at a bank, get fishing-hunting licenses, get disabled car mirror tag,
ALL REQUIRE IDENTIFICATION.
So why NOT voting, too?
The ONLY way to correct the present chaos is to hold another election with ID, paper ballots and in person going to the polls. No mail in votes.
No machines.
Talking about correcting the election process is just a bullshit no brainer subject.
“Allegations of fraud and other irregularities...” Allegations? You mean proof of it. Guy sounds like a RINO, hoping for a nice, diplomatic way out of eternal election stealing.
TOO little, TOO late.
Dear Andy,
They don’t follow the laws already on the books. How are you going to make them follow a new law?
Signed,
- Sheesh -
I will say that it does show his lack of understanding.
