Students at Utah school allowed to opt out of Black History Month activities (civil rights)

NORTH OGDEN, Utah - A charter school in northern Utah that is allowing parents to opt students out of its Black History Month curriculum has sparked a debate over if parents should have the option.

Maria Montessori Academy Director Micah Hirokawa said on the school’s Facebook page on Friday that he “reluctantly” sent out a letter explaining families are allowed “to exercise their civil rights to not participate in Black History Month at the school,” the Standard-Examiner reported.

Hirokawa said “few families” asked not to participate in instruction related to Black History Month. But he declined to say how many parents or their reasons for making the decision.

“We should not shield our children from the history of our Nation, the mistreatment of its African American citizens, and the bravery of civil rights leaders, but should educate them about it,” Hirokawa said, adding that the parents’ request saddens and disappoints him.

The school’s board of directors declined to provide further comment on the decision.

I note that Black History Month is February, the shortest, coldest, most miserable month of the year, while Pride Month is June.

As you would expect there is outrage over this from BLM and the local media. The parents should insist on a “White History Month”.

Yes, there is nothing wrong about teaching good things African Americans have done for society. But if the teachings are current-day “woke” propaganda that is a completely different matter.

2 years ago, my Filipino bud had the same notion to extract his kid from black history month crap at school. They actually spoke to the parents. So in he comes expecting a lecture from the board about racism blah blah and he asks the golden question: “how come there’s no Filipino history month my mexican friends history month? Why does it take a month?”

...that’d be ridiculous. “American History Month” works. Most Americans like to be a part of “American History”. There’s nothing more racist and excludes more people that Black History Month. Except “Black Enterprise”, “Jet”, “Ebony” magazines. BET. “Black Congressional Congress” etc.

Exactly. Expose how ridiculous and exclusionary it is to have “Black History Month”.

Forgot to mention that the new RINO Governor (same as the old Governor) is also upset that anyone would want to excuse their kids from Black History Month indoctrination.

One day when picking my kids up from middle school, I noticed a glass display cabinet housing several pictures and commentary highlighting african American icons. It was February, and I took time to look over the display. These were ALL liberals such as shady sharpton and his justice brothers sidekick jessie, as well as a host of others.

Not a single mention of Clarence Thomas or any other conservative black prominent person of color. Mind you this was a few years back.

When I inquired about the choices for display, no one would answer as to why no Conservatives were represented.

I asked if it was a display of black history or a display of black socialists?

Needless to say, I was given a cold shoulder at every parent teacher conference to follow.

Thank God our daughters had an early private Christian school upbringing to root a foundation.

Which month is White History Month?

No less then Jesse Lee Peterson himself named 'July' as White History Month. White guys came out and declared independence and thousands of white guys fought in Gettysburg for black freedom. White people landed on the moon because we didnt want to endanger black lives, cuz they matter so much to us!

Now the Brits named November as WHM. so we actually have 2 months.

Liberals in many other states are intentionally NOT informing parents of sexually explicit and pro-homo lessons so that they can’t opt out.

Given that the referenced school is taxpayer supported, the state actors running the school are obligated to respect not only the protections that the states have amended the Constitution to expressly protect, but also to respect what legal local majority taxpayers want for their tax dollars.

"14th Amendment, Section 1. All persons born or naturalized in the United States, and subject to the jurisdiction thereof, are citizens of the United States and of the State wherein they reside. No State shall make or enforce any law which shall abridge the privileges or immunities of citizens of the United States [emphasis added]; nor shall any State deprive any person of life, liberty, or property, without due process of law; nor deny to any person within its jurisdiction the equal protection of the laws."

I asked the same question at our local Post Office a few years ago when every postage stamp had a liberal tone. The U.S. Flag Forever and a flower were the only two that weren’t offensive. Like you, I got no good answer.
