I’ve read the Articles of impeachment. It seems they can impeach people and put in the conviction that they can’t serve again. However I don’t think they have ever impeached anyone that wasn’t in office. Since it takes 67 in the Senate to convict, let me see the 17 republicans with the gonads to say 74000000 voters were wrong.
The secretary of war under Grant was impeached after he resigned.
Sorry about that. Murkowski and Collins are women so them having gonads would be inappropriate.
But the Constitution says: “When the President of the United States is tried, the Chief Justice shall preside”. It doesn’t say “when the former president ...”
Yesterday, some count was done, and it only appears that 7 Republicans are in some pro-impeachment mode.
I suspect that even when it’s convened....neither Trump or his lawyers will attend, and once the ‘prosecution’ phase ends...McConnell will move to just an immediate vote. In the end, they won’t go past sixty.
I will add that the bulk of Republicans up for re-election in 2022 are fairly scared of what is coming and they need to venture out of this mess and avoid antagonizing Trump any more.
A lot of this will be remembered, and somewhere over the next decade, with the RINOs removed...impeachment will be used against the Democrats (possibly even Obama might be dragged in over the misuse of intelligence collection against Trump).
That’s why it’s important to set an example with efforts to censure, remove and replace any House republican traitors like Cheney who support this illegal harassment against a private citizen. Republican senators need to pay a heavy price (their careers) for supporting this leftist corruption.
“let me see the 17 republicans with the gonads to say 74000000 voters were wrong.“
I’m pretty convinced that they already did that when they allowed this utterly corrupted election decision go basically un-opposed.
They told 74 million of us that WE don’t matter; they THEY call all the shots and what are we gonna do about it, huh?....
And they got away with it. Now they feel invisible.
Removal from office is 2/3. Once that is successful, they may vote on a majority basis for banning from future office.
If they are not removing him from office, can they vote on banning from future office?
Dershowitz says no
Mitch McConnell for one. Now you only have to find 16 more so called Republicans to convict.
