They don’t care. They think Trump will be old news and buried in legal troubles the next few years to retaliate and that the American people have short memories.
They aren’t necessarily wrong here. We’ll see what happens.

They really don’t care about “the people.” They understand politics and there are a hundred jujitsu-like political moves that will likely derail any attempt to remove them from office. Also, you can bet they were either bribed or expect some form of compensation; probably political favors.
