I bet most people don’t realize that we see the same side of the Moon every time we look up at it. Probably so, unless you are a Pink Floyd fan.
It is called tidal locking.

As you both may well already know, the moon actually rotates on its axis in about the same time frame it revolves around the earth, always keeping the same side facing us, as you both have pointed out.
