All those heavy hitters. All that money, and in a “blue state” no less. And yet…it wasn’t even close. The big bucks, the big endorsements, the push from big business and big tech, came to nothing. And the pundits are baffled

Surprisingly well written piece for someone I presume is a liberal, and a near miss on the target they were aiming at. There’s a lot of mudslinging inside, but it gets close to the calculus the electorate came to:

No, we do not wish to institutionalize discrimination again in California. We’ve had enough of that. The screaming chorus which endorsed it further indicated to the electorate there was something deeply wrong going on.

But liberal ideology loves to have a victim, and therefore, it is identified as blacks. Everyone knew exactly what the intention was, kick out those pesky hard working Asians from California’s UC system so there’s room for, well, more gender studies degrees and diversity specialists. It was intentional discrimination against a minority (which would SUPPOSEDLY lead to more black enrollment.) Yeah, we all know how this story goes in California - we’ll just do a LITTLE bit of harm, but as a society we’ll be better off.

The author is quite correct: the white guilt, "more free sh-- for negroes" mantra of white liberals and the Left is not going to go over with Hispanics or Asians.

I might add, do they really think Juan, Jose, and Mr. Lee are going to pay reparations, too?

David Cole is an interesting cat. I wouldn’t call him a liberal. He’s good friends with Ann Coulter, not that it necessarily means anything but that is the circle in which he used to operate.

Spot on. And this confirms my view that blacks are nothing more than a modern-day manifestation of the American Indians — a group of people who are largely incapable of assimilating in a modern society and therefore have no place in it.

There may actually be a path to end the decades long “affirmative action” con.

It was disgusting to any fair minded person when it was initially enacted, and it remains disgusting public policy today.

In many areas, Hispanics are assimilating into the working class white community, not just culturally, but through intermarriage. I don’t see much interest in racial quotas for blacks among working class whites. For one thing, in Latin America, unless they are coal black in appearance, the populations see themselves as white. The brown thing is strictly an American affectation.
