Weekly Garden Thread - November 14-20, 2020
November 14, 2020 | Diana in Wisconsin/Greeneyes

Posted on 11/14/2020 5:56:19 AM PST by Diana in Wisconsin

The Weekly Gardening Thread is a weekly gathering of folks that love soil, seeds and plants of all kinds. From complete newbies that are looking to start that first potted plant, to gardeners with some acreage, to Master Gardener level and beyond, we would love to hear from you.

If you have specific question about a plant/problem you are having, please remember to state the Growing Zone where you are located.

This thread is non-political respite. No matter what, you won’t be flamed, and the only dumb question is the one that isn’t asked.

It is impossible to hijack the Weekly Gardening Thread. Planting, Harvest to Table Recipes, Preserving, Good Living - there is no telling where it will go - and that is part of the fun and interest. Jump in and join us! Send a Private Message to Diana in Wisconsin if you'd like to be added to our New & Improved Ping List.

NOTE: This is a once a week Ping List. We do post to the thread during the week. Links to related articles and discussions which might be of interest to Gardeners are welcomed any time!

The weather has finally cooled in Southern California so it’s time to plant my winter garden!

Pansies, cyclamen, roses and more. I’ve always thought my winter garden was more colorful and beautiful than my summer garden. And, it’s such a relief to be able to garden now that the intense heat has broken.

Lots of work to do.

I really enjoy looking at everyone’s garden photos and hope to post a few myself when I’m (mostly) done.

Work in the garden is never done, it’s always a work in progres.

We’re planning to enjoy some home made tomato bisque with mandatory cheese sandwitches today for lunch on a rainy day.
The soup is the last of our tomato harvest.

There’s nothing better than home grown tomatos...

Good Morning Diana!

Love the Local Eat post. I try to. And thank God for our gardens! Because going to the local farmers markets are SOOO HIGH in price for a while now. Seems they think they are a outdoor corporate ‘Whole Foods’ market!
XD

Good morning Diana! My potted cabbage plant with the purple head is enjoying the cooler western Pennsylvania weather and early morning dew.

Wow, saw this on Reddit and thought it might be okay to post here?

"In early spring, while the mountain peaks around the village of Tragoess are still covered in snow, the meadow lining Grüner See (Green Lake) blooms. Only in later months, when night temperatures don’t fall below freezing, does the snow melt and travel down the creeks to fill up the lake with crystal-clear water. The meadow, with freshly bloomed flowers and rich green grass, gets flooded and for the next two months creates an amazing underwater park." - Martin Strmiska, Styria, Austria

Beautiful! Yes, any/all beautiful nature pictures are welcome! :) Can you can find/add one each week for us?

I see May Apples growing in the foreground. We have a number of large patches of those in our woods in the Spring. Not underwater, though! That would mean trouble, LOL!
