Bad Luck Coming
Time Enough For Love ^ | 1973 | Robert Heinlein

Posted on 11/08/2020 4:39:18 AM PST by Lonesome in Massachussets

“Throughout history, poverty is the normal condition of man. Advances which permit this norm to be exceeded — here and there, now and then — are the work of an extremely small minority, frequently despised, often condemned, and almost always opposed by all right-thinking people. Whenever this tiny minority is kept from creating, or (as sometimes happens) is driven out of a society, the people then slip back into abject poverty.

This is known as "bad luck.”

― Robert Heinlein

1 Samuel 17

34 And David said unto Saul, Thy servant kept his father's sheep, and there came a lion, and a bear, and took a lamb out of the flock:
35 And I went out after him, and smote him, and delivered it out of his mouth: and when he arose against me, I caught him by his beard, and smote him, and slew him.
36 Thy servant slew both the lion and the bear: and this uncircumcised Philistine shall be as one of them, seeing he hath defied the armies of the living God.
37 David said moreover, The LORD that delivered me out of the paw of the lion, and out of the paw of the bear, he will deliver me out of the hand of this Philistine. And Saul said unto David, Go, and the LORD be with thee.

Not bad luck, not karma, maybe just the timing of the eternal clock. Getting closer to going Home time.

Always wondered how the USA played in the end time scenario...

I do believe prayer can grant more time, but now it will take an obvious miracle and Christisns on their knees. Pastors are afraid to pray for justice and the President in church for fear of offending someone, that needs to stop.

That’s one of my favorite Heinlein quotes, and he has many great quotes.

My favorite book from my favorite author. Maureen would say, “Death to tyrants!” I’m pretty sure of that...

....as I have posted previously, keep in mind the famous saying attributed to the 18th century French philosopher Joseph de Maitre, “A nation gets the government it deserves.” I am totally disgusted with this PoS Biden now as “President elect” given that he got there through total voter fraud. I fear for this country’s future.....liberals are already calling for us conservatives to be banished, ostracized, put in concentration camps and even liquidated.....

That kind of assessment always makes me wonder which class it relates to, FRiend.
Right now, I view our problem, as the ages old struggle with the type of people who continually strive to control Other people.
Interesting how that subset always manages to thrive when a belief in God is diminished - people who believe in nothing beyond themselves, become easy marks for those who would rule them.

Pray, and work to remain Free.

P.S. LOVE Heinlein. An armed society, is a polite society. 😉

I love Catholics but they don’t take a stand on politics when they should. In these times any Christian worth his salt should NEVER vote Left. It’s hard to be a true Christian. When you’re told by Jesus to render unto Ceasar what is Ceaser’s and what is God what is God’s you can’t support a Government that is evil. We’re there. I will be a good law abiding citizen in a country that is at least half way honest but what we are seeing is pure evil. I won’t participate. Period.

True.

How much have Christians in the USA interceded for Venezuela regarding politics? Personally I have just blown off their communism as something they wanted, but that might not be true. Same may be the dase with of other countries that are suffering political torture.

No, nobody wants communism when they figure out what it means. But then, it is too late!

Communists get themselves to power by violence (Preferable way as of Marx theories) or some kind of election shenanigans. Not letting good crisis go to waste. In Venezuela case, by demagoguery.

Then, they keep themselves in power forever (see Cuba, Castro still there!)
They are the cancer of the humanity.

If the history will repeat itself:
Churches would be destroyed, clergy executed or send to concentration camps. So will many faithfull. Sacred building turned into swimming pools, gymnasiums, museum, offices, apartments.
Freedoms will disappear, guns get confiscated, you will need government permission to go to see your parents in Chicago.
Economy will go to shambless. You will be starving to death, living in shared quarters with several other families. Forget cars or any other little life luxuries, but you may be given one or two sets of cloths, preferably even the same as everybody else. But you will be (forced) thanking government for all the stuff they will be giving you.
You will be attending reeducation classes, voting compulsory for the (only) party candidate. Scared for you live, just praying, hoping and surviving somehow.

Finally, like 70 years later, the commies will decide, they are really tired to catching up to Sierra Leone. Then there may be change, hopefully. Suddenly they all will realize how foolish they were!

This is not some imaginary scenario, this is short overview of history of Soviet Union, China, Vietnam, North Korea, Cuba and many others.

I love Heinlein. He’s a bit strange with his Oedipus complex, though.

Yep. This is the future if this illegitimate election stands.

AOC is not an outlier, she will be an overlord.

It happened in China, where Deng Xioping decided to put Communism as an economic philosophy aside and return to China's traditional system of Confucian authoritarian capitalism. They enjoyed astounding economic success for a few decades, but the Chinese people had minimal success in throwing off the authoritarians - and now Xi Jinping wants to stuff the genie back in the bottle.

Once a couple of generations get used to living under total government control, fear of losing that security blanket almost always trumps desires for liberty.
