Shatner has been doing it for decades. He is a shameless self-promoter and will be the first to tell you so.
There is a self-effacing quality to his commercials, like the whole thing is one big wink at the camera, that really works.

I think a lot of prominent actors do commercials overseas. We just don’t see the commercials.
Just for the record. I don’t see anything wrong with anyone doing commercials, including famous celebrities.

William Shatner has always been willing to do commercials for anyne who would pay him. Some younger folks know him as The Priceline guy. He also did Oldsmobile in the 80s and Canadian supermarkets in the 70s. Pat Boone and family were pitching Acnestatin in the 70s.

The self-deprecating quality of Shatner's commercials is why he made a HUGE amount of money in them--probably way more than his acting career.

Henry Winkler (the saddest in my opinion), William Devane (Gold - pretty cool, though), Tom Selleck (reverse mortgages, pretty sad, too)

Easy way to pick up some cash. Remember when Bob Hope did a Big Kmart commercial? Mickey Rooney sold insurance?

Yep. Supposedly endorsement money is excellent. So where’s the shame? It’s just another carnie gig.

He took stock rather than cash for the Priceline endorsement work, and that turned out quite nicely for him. Good for him, I say!

Jane Russel used to hawk Playtex bras. George Burns used to sell batteries. I’ve forgotten the name of the aging actress who used to be the spokes person from Denture glue. Tommy Lee Jones shilled for reverse mortgages before Tom Selleck.

Tom Selleck shilling for reverse mortgages was crushing to me.
He was one guy in Hollywood who I thought had a decent head on his shoulders.

I like seeing Joe Namath, though it does make my arthritis flare up just to look at him.
There’s a special corner of Hell waiting for Magnum PI for talking seniors into reverse mortgages.
