REXBURG, Idaho (NEXSTAR) Officials at Brigham Young Universitys Idaho campus are warning students that intentionally contracting COVID-19 is grounds for possible permanent dismissal, according to a statement on the schools website.
BYU-Idaho is deeply troubled by accounts of individuals who have intentionally exposed themselves or others to COVID-19, with the hope of getting the disease and being paid for plasma that contains COVID-19 antibodies, according to the statement. The university warned on Sept. 25 that it might have to close the campus if the school failed to stay under coronavirus thresholds laid out by Eastern Idaho Public Health. That hasnt happened so far, and the school is urging students to be responsible to avoid shutting down in-person instruction.
The contraction and spread of COVID-19 is not a light matter, the statement reads. Reckless disregard for health and safety will inevitably lead to additional illness and loss of life in our community.
Idaho is seeing a renewed spike in daily cases in September and October after numbers jumped up over the summer, according to Johns Hopkins University data.
While the state saw only a couple dozen new cases per day in May, that number rose rapidly as the summer progressed, reaching 586 on July 18. Those numbers fell from that peak to 230 new daily cases on Sept. 10, before steadily increasing again to a new high of 606 cases on Oct. 09.
On Tuesday, the Idaho Department of Health and Welfare reported 49,247 total cases and 512 deaths from coronavirus
I considered selling plasma in college, glad I didn’t b/c now my veins are really bad anyway.
But I didn’t even realize they were paying for convalescent plasma; I had assumed it was a different process, unpaid like donating blood.
Good for them. Enterprising solution to turn a negative into a positive.
They aren’t DemocRats because they aren’t deathly afraid of the virus. My wife’s coworker’s son had covid in July and is getting $200 per pint of plasma.
My son sold plasma last year, got about 300 per month. He told me they are now paying 700 per month to those with covid antibodies. Should be no surprise some students that are very healthy would be willing to take the risk. Not condoning it but understanding why.
That’s some Capitalistic Schadenfreude right there!
BUT IT’S THE MOST DANGEROUS DISEASE THE WORLD HAS EVER KNOWN!

Why is it grounds for dismissal? That’s idiotic.
A young person contracting the virus is something that should be encouraged, that way the least susceptible get immune and no longer transmit the virus to others.
Not a bad idea. They have a better chance of dying of alcohol poisoning, than the Chicom Cooties.
I ran into a college kid in a parking lot a few years ago selling plasma TVs out of the back of a Uhaul truck.
And he was asymptomatic. Never the first sniffle.
Hey it gets us closer to herd immunity!!!
Plasma and sperm and marijauna....and Biden wants to forgive their loans, too.
Perhaps that’s a worthy endeavor.
Low risk, high reward.
Its none of the schools business what the students do with their own bodies. They should be kissing their asses for being willing to come back to school and pay tuition.
When I was in college, we’d give blood on Thursdays so we could drunk cheaper on quarter beer nights.
Not in Rexburg they don’t! Remember what school it is.
