A 20-year-old British Columbia man faces traffic charges after Alberta Mounties received complaints about a self-driving Telsa speeding while the occupants were taking a nap.
Ponoka RCMP said in a Thursday news release police received a call about a 2019 Tesla Model S travelling over 140 km/h south on Highway 2 near the town around 4 p.m. on July 9. Police said the car appeared to be self-driving with both front seats reclined all the way back and the driver and passenger were asleep.
Police said when an officer turned on their emergency lights, the Tesla accelerated to 150 km/h.
After being pulled over, the driver was charged with speeding and handed a 24-hour licence suspension for fatigue. He was later charged with dangerous driving.

Dude !
He really has faith in the self driving car functioning properly doesn’t he?
Always thought this would make a interesting court case.
Cit the car not me.
That’s 87 MPH for you non-Metric types......................
140 kph = 87 mph
Wow. Didn’t know that a Tesla can be programmed to try to outrun police. Explains why LeBron James loves them...
He’s an idiot for that, if something had happened and he ended up seriously injured, there are no multi-million dollar payouts in Canada.
93.75 top speed after the lights.
“Are we really going 110? We’re going 110!”...Smokey and The Bandit
Something smells fishy...................

No worries, it's all good.
Musk hates the 5-0.
‘Hates’ is such a strong word..................
Just waiting for the first case of a driver dying from a heart attack while driving, and the car keeps going.
Okay, he watched too much Dukes of Hazzard and Smokey and the Bandit growing up.
Unless that car has some very special programing I would agree.
Traditional programing should be that the car pulls over to the side and stops. That is what a driver is suppose to do.
Why not test death row scum on such vehicles!? A win-win! Vanishing Point at the end of the trip!
Got to love a self driving car that accelerates when police are chasing it.
It was obvious that this sort of thing would occur if self-driving cars were allowed. However nothing must be allowed to stand in the way of our New Age Lord and Savior, Elon Musk.
