That pretty much describes why Trump is president right now. A friend told him he couldn’t do it.
According to Don Jr in an interview I saw a a while back, his father was talking to a friend and told him he was thinking about running. The friend said something like ‘Oh you’d never make it as a politician’...wrong thing to tell Donald Trump.
The rest is history. Before you could say ‘Obama sucks’, he was actively getting the paperwork started. Because somebody told him he couldn’t do it...
I found the Wolman Rink story long ago, and he talked about it in an interview too. He knew nothing about building a skating rink (his own admission) but he just _knew_ he could do it. So he got tired of watching the city waste money and finally told Koch he’d get it done. By Christmas, and no more than either 2 or 3 million. I think he said $2 mil but not positive.
The city didn’t want him to do it at first, they thought he would put his name on it and of course make a bundle. He puts his name on things because he’s proud of what he builds. He agreed to not only NOT put his name on it, but not profit from it.
When he looked it over, he knew the concrete had to go, he said it was rough, uneven, cracked and out of level so he ripped it out and started over. He had traffic in Manhattan locked up all day with a line of cement trucks all the way across town. Instead of the usual 4 inch slab, he poured it a foot thick, and found out the copper pipes that were set up previously for freon had hundreds of leaks. So he “called up a friend” (again, his words). The guy doing the refrigeration was from Florida. HUH? Florida? WHat does he know about ice? (almost but not quite a direct quote) He called and explained the skating rink project to his friend, who recommended someone from Canada who was using a new brine method instead of freon. “Canada - Now he knows ice”... (Trump’s words again)
He called that person, got him on the job, and they set up PVC and ran the brine setup. Once it was flooded with water he had ice in 2 hours, they called in an olympic skater who took a couple of laps and said it was “like velvet” and the rink was ready for business. (but concession stands still had to be put in.) 4 months ahead of schedule and $75,000 under budget. (or was it $750,000? I can’t remember but I think 75) He didn’t put his name on it, and has never profited from it. And this is a guy who, by his own admission, knew nothing about building a skating rink.
He didn’t know anything about running a country either and look what he’’s done...No that is NOT a put down...
And the CEO of the company I used to work for knew nothing about repairing the hydraulics on the presses in our plant.......
I read this story during the 2016 campaign.
The man is far from perfect but he was sent by our Lord to rectify alot of problems.
