The Drug Testing Advisory Board (DTAB) within the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services has submitted a hair testing proposal to the Federal Register for publication, the agency confirmed at a September 1 meeting.
Hair testing is believed to have a much longer detection period up to 90 days for certain narcotics, versus 2 to 3 days for urine tests and hair tests are cheaper to administer.
OOIDA ( Owner-Operator Independent Drivers Association) also cites inconsistencies in the results for hair testing based on race: According to the American Civil Liberties Union, dark hair is more likely to test positive for a drug, and, additionally, African-Americans are more likely to test positive than Caucasians.

Or people with dark hair are likely drug users?
Bald is beautiful!... And drug free.
THX-1138 is our future.
When will teachers, cops, judges, Congress, mayors and city council members face random drug tests? They can potentially ruin or have great effects on peoples lives, yet all of the people above are not subjected to random testing.
They will want to sample your testicular hair.
No joke. Saw a defense attorney try that once in a lawsuit involving a paralyzed motorcycle rider.
And they need to include those conducting the testing. They also need to face random testing.
“If the pube don’t fit, you must acquit.”
I had to get hair tested for one job.
Don’t even think of shaving your head to beat it, they can use *ANY* hair. I got the distinct impression they would regard it as a pleasurable challenge.
Damned drug warriors. I see nothing in my copy of the Constitution that gives any government (or other) entity any say over what goes into my body.
The only person who should EVER be able to ask you to take any test of this sort should be your doctor.
I guess the operator crisis isn’t severe enough they need more regulations to send drivers off to other employment. To bad hair samples don’t show alcohol.
Body hair??
And so much for that plan.
Can’t they obtain DNA from hair as well?
“...Or people with dark hair are likely drug users?..”
Badabing Badaboom!
“I see nothing in my copy of the Constitution that gives any government (or other) entity any say over what goes into my body.”
Some of that has to do with liability. A delivery company, for example, is liable for their drivers and doesn’t want to hire people who may show up high on something and kill people.
Yes.
Thats why I cant get an interview. Wasted $4500 and got my CDL with all the endorsements.
Been keeping my hair military-length since high school. That and increasing baldness... used to shave my head every 3 months with #1 blade, last time right before being furloughed.
Swift, CR England and others will only take hair from the back of the head (2 required). Havent cut my hair since March and its almost 2 now.
“Some of that has to do with liability.”
I worked in a large research lab with lots of ‘fun’ stuff.
Like 1,000 PSI hydrogen and sometimes higher PSI, everywhere a valve on most workbench/fume hoods.
Remember the Hindenburg?
Before the pre-employment interview, you agree to a pre-employment drug test, an annual and subject to random testing, if hired.
One word from the safety people and you were toast.
I wonder if curly hair is more likely to test positive?
“I wonder if curly hair is more likely to test positive?”
Being a teetotaler I’m not sure.
But I have heard occasional talk about some stuff that would curl your hair?
Could be?
Do you recall the outcome of the case?
Judging from the variety of drivers coming through my warehouse, whose primary language is NOT English, probably not.
