Dear members of Free Republic
Please allow me to introduce myself. I am a retired person living in Malta. Over the years, I have lived and worked on four continents: Africa, Asia, Europe and North America. My time in the US was memorable for many reasons, but not least because I came to admire its tradition and loyal people, and to despise those who seemed determined to tear it down.
For the past two years, I have visited this site, and found much that agrees with my own experience. Finally, I have decided to join. My user name is that of the Scottish author of "Thrift", a virtue that seems to be vanishing from the US, and that perhaps needs to be rediscovered. I am unfamiliar with the conventions of your discourse, so please correct me (gently) if I set a foot wrong.
