New York Times columnist Paul Krugman is the latest journalist to mockingly downplay the violence that has plagued some American cities.
Krugman on Wednesday shared observations he made during his run in New York City.
I went for a belated NYC run this morning, and am sorry to report that I saw very few black-clad anarchists. Also, the city is not yet in flames, the economist wrote on Twitter. The political question of the day is whether Trump can win politically by hammering on a nonexistent crisis of order in Americas cities. You would think not, but Im not 100% confident. [ ]
Krugman was blasted on social media for being so flippant about the rise of urban violence.
Shootings in NYC in 2020 have surged past 1,000, far more than at this point last year, Boston Globe columnist Jeff Jacoby reacted. There have been 294 homicides so far, compared with 217 at this time in 2019. Three New Yorkers were murdered in just the past 24 hours. Though probably not on Paul Krugmans jogging route.

As a former contractor who had to do landscape maintenance in the Baltimore projects, the criminal element doesnt even wake up until noon, which is when our crew would leave and then do the suburban jobs.
on my Ft Worth walk at 9am saw two black people, first guy was very nice, genuine smile, asked me how I was, wished me a good day, lady about 3o minutes later smiled waived and said hello, I told her the 75 degrees felt nice, she smiled and said it sure does. We were all three okay with the human race.
I was a service tech for GE for 32 years, I always ran the calls in the projects as early as possible.
Krugman is a Marxist. Period. Marxists lie. Period. Therefore Krugman is a lying, psychopathic Marxist. PERIOD.
Hey Paul. “Blind, deaf, dumb, psychopathic and a liar is the way you’ve always gone thru life” And you’ll die that way! Unmourned, grave pissed on, no grass growing around your tin-can coffin, and very quickly forgotten by all but the insane.
Behold the banality of evil.
Just a few blocks of brief mayhem per night, city is huge, ...
Krugmans 15 minutes were over decades ago. He is a nut.
A limited search showed more rioting on the Upper East Side and Downtown vs the Upper West Side (though the City relocated homeless to Upper West Side hotels...). Interestingly, of settling on the West Side, Krugman said:
We went to the Village and said, Were too old for this. We looked on the East Side and I said, When the Revolution comes, these people get shot first. The Upper West Side was clearly our kind of place.
Doesn’t sound like he saw any cops abusing black people either....
Pretty much everything Krugman says is wrong.

DeBerry (D) Memphis on What kind of nation have we become?
Krugman, what a snarky, smarmy (fill in the blank).
So because he doesn’t see something in his immediate neighborhood, that means it isn’t happening????? Really???? That is how he researches and evaluates what people are saying about the violence????
