Up to 90 percent of people tested for COVID-19 in Massachusetts, New York and Nevada in July carried barely any traces of the virus and it could be because today's tests are 'too sensitive', experts say.
Health experts say PCR testing - the most widely used diagnostic test for COVID-19 in the US - are too sensitive and need to be adjusted to rule out people who have insignificant amounts of the virus in their systems because they're likely not contagious.
Today the PCR test, which provides a yes or no answer if a patient is infected, doesn't say how much of the virus a patient has in their body.
PCR tests analyze genetic matter from the virus in cycles and today's tests typically take 37 or 40 cycles, but experts say this is too high because it detects very small amounts of the virus that don't pose a risk.

Ping!
Can we ditch the damn masks now and reopened our tattered economy?
Duh...
Thanks Jane Long.
There’s some truth here, but -as usual- the media distorts it beyond use.
In sum, PCR tests are very good for diagnoses, followed by medical investigation and treatment. Note that that medical investigation and treatment usually starts with isolation and waiting for symptoms.
The PCR tests are NOT GOOD for the public health use of tracking and controlling the outbreak.
They’re too sensitive and slow.
Less sensitive and much quicker ‘rapid tests’ are the tool for public health purposes.
Your choice of tools depends on what you want to accomplish!
Reports are that the FDA is holding up the use of rapid tests by making unreasonable demands for approval.
2.8 million Americans will die this year. We don't obliterate the economy because of it.
It sucks that your neighbors' dad died. I'm sure my elderly parents would've too been taken by COVID had they not already passed away a couple of years ago.
We destroyed the economy for 9200 people, a little more than the total number of Americans who die each day.
That they couldn't visit him why he was dying was because the entire country was forced to participate in this ridiculous kabuki theater.
I stand by my post. It was all a scam.
Missed that (I think).
He was on a ventilator, but is going through breathing rehab now. He is very obese, probably 350 lbs.
I guess the chicomm's believed all of the fake news reports that half of Americans were very obese and unleashed the virus, thinking they could kill half of the American population.
I am so sorry for the loss of your neighbors father. The covid has a 99.97 Percent survivability rate for the rest of us. I am sorry your neighbors father was one of the people that succumbed. So many have died this year from flu, cancer, heart disease, kidney disease, alcoholism, car accidents, doctor malpractice and so many other causes. I am sorry for their loss and still I acknowledge that people die every day of a myriad number of causes, covid being one. We cannot stop living to pretend that no one should ever die. This is lethal to some; so is the flu, and so many other causes. Should we sacrifice the welfare of all for their grief? That is what you seem to be asking us to do. I choose to live amid the risk, as do most of us. Life is risk, never forget that. And this is NOT satire
I'm really sick and tired of "experts".
What this article shows is that rather than globally administering interventions that have no impact on 90% of people infected and 99% of the population, we should have focused on identifying risk and intervening accordingly.
My 80+ yo parents are healthy and have no co-morbidities that could increase risk if contracting the Wuhan. Regardless, we are very careful in our interactions with them so as not to put them at any risk, which also means avoiding risks ourselves.
If our society needs to shut down the 99% in order to contain the 1%, or even a 90/10% ratio, then we might as well give up on automobiles, airplanes, sports, and every other risky behavior we commonly take every single day.
Therefore, an "X-Spurt" is an unknown drip under pressure.
I don’t think tests can be too sensitive.
But it’s good to know the dynamics of the infection.
No kidding.
What a surprise.
The more the narrative about COVID keeps falling apart, the worse the dems look for keeping the lockdowns going.
Hmmmm... Between this and the CDC’s recent report this pandemic narrative sure is falling apart. I wonder if the Dems are seeing via polling that the public is turning against this nonsense?
This has always been political not medicinal.
You are an idiot of unimaginable proportions. So 177,000 people die and its a sham?
What are you some type of moronic know nothing?
Aside from sounding totally uneducated you are disrespectful to the families of those who lost loved ones during this sham pandemic. You should be banned from this site.
