The U.S. version of urban blight, if you rely on ample empirical evidence, is largely a non-reversible process. Once money moves out, it ain’t coming back. They may try to ‘renew’ an area, but it’s usually lipstick on a pig, like upscale condos in a high crime area.
All the major cities have damaged themselves by electing socialists. They may not die today but they are in definite decline. I think the major American city has seen its heyday. And really we dont need them to be the center of everything. People generally want more breathing space and are able to work outside of the major cities and thrive. They health of the United States doesn’t have to be measure in the greatness of New York, Chicago and Los Angeles.
If they ever invent time travel, I want to go back and live in New York in 1946. I’m of the opinion that it was all down hill for New York from there on.
They will move away and vote for the same a$$holes that caused them to have to move in the first place.

Yep, he NAILS IT when he says that Bandwidth is the end of NYC. It is the end of every city, other than maybe DC. Cities had their place in human history, going back thousands of years, but, at this point, they simply serve no purpose in a world where people are connected and commerce can move cheaply over long distances. The virus only (greatly) accelerated their decline, but our cities were able to hang on, until they elected their current crop of leaders - now it’s game over for them.
It will not come back because the country is going Marxist/Communist.
What is happening isn’t just a phase unless the people want to rise up and put a stop to it.
So far, the bad guys continue the destruction of the economy and the personal wealth and freedoms of Americans.

One of the insurance co’s I work for has a claims unit in downtown NY and most of all the employees are now working from home with just a skeleton crew in downtown office and when the lease is up those are going to be gone as well as they are moving it to another state. Around 400 employees.
The strong will still thrive in NYC even if covid is forever.
Fairweather transplants will leave but it’ll only bring down real estate prices for the risk takers and artists. The true heart of the city
