I liked him although I’m sure he was a flaming Leftist.

Some flaming Leftists are still nice guys.

I did not know his politics. That is a good thing.

I once had the pleasure of interviewing Mr. Philbin. I worked for a Cable TV magazine when I lived in New York. During the interview I asked him what he thought his allure was with middle aged women. I told him that there was a woman in our accounting office who loved him and had his head shots up in her cubicle. We laughed. After the interview, he invited me to come to a taping of the show. He told me to bring this woman along. Of course, she was thrilled. About two weeks later we went to the show. He greeted us at the studio and remembered this woman’s name and gave her flowers. It was such a kind gesture that I am sure she remembered the rest of her life. RIP Regis. A true gentleman.

Met him on Hollywood Blvd in 1988. Nice man and I was surprised at how little he was. I’m only 5’6”.

I grew to enjoy Kathie Lee and Regis on their show. He always came across as a fun, nice guy. It is hard to fake some things. R.I.P Regis.

I have to remember, but I think I saw a video of clips on Youtube that was fun, it might have been him and others, will look for it. My memory is not good anymore, especially after some surgeries last year.

One of the greats in the history of television, Regis Philbin has passed on to even greater airwaves, at 88. He was a fantastic person, and my friend. He kept telling me to run for President. Holds the record for “most live television”, and he did it well. Regis, we love you....— Donald J. Trump (@realDonaldTrump) July 25, 2020

....And to Joy, his wonderful wife who he loved so much, my warmest condolences!!!— Donald J. Trump (@realDonaldTrump) July 25, 2020

Damn.

I swear the last time I saw him he still looked well enough to be hosting “Millionaire”.

RIP

Believe it or not, Regis credited his early success in TV to his friendship with Freddie Blassie, the pro wrestler. Regis’ first show was in San Diego in the early 60’s and Blassie appeared constantly as Regis had difficulty getting celebs in San Diego back then. As Regis moved up the ladder he would bring Blassie everywhere he went, including a famous scene when he hosted the Mike Douglas Show the first time, when Blassie got Martha Raye to give the double finger salute as Blassie trash talked her.
