No one is more important to the history of environmental conservation than John Muir — the “wilderness prophet,” “patron saint of the American wilderness” and “father of the national parks” who founded the nation’s oldest conservation organization, the Sierra Club. But on Wednesday, citing the current racial reckoning, the group announced it will end its blind reverence to a figure who was also racist.
As Confederate statues fall across the country, Sierra Club Executive Director Michael Brune said in an early morning post on the group’s website, “it’s time to take down some of our own monuments, starting with some truth-telling about the Sierra Club’s early history.” Muir, who fought to preserve Yosemite Valley and Sequoia National Forest, once referred to African Americans as lazy “Sambos,” a racist pejorative that many black people consider to be even more offensive than the n-word.

Can’t we then assume everything the Sierra Club has done since it’s inception was based solely on RACISM and should immediately be Undone??
Cutting off historical ties this way regardless of who it was is inherently leftist and should not be celebrated.
The thing is, pretty much any organization that had roots 100 or more years ago had open and virulent racists in its leadership in those early days, because that was the normal way to be then. The leftiest colleges you can find have buildings named for segregationist presidents, because every college (practically) was segregationist and not by accident. Polite Eastern society was Jew haters down the line in 1915. That’s what the world was like then, but it’s gotten better even if it has more bettering yet to do.
Several years ago, my ex-wife was pointing out some of the moral failings of folks I work with and go to church. When I had enough of it, which wasn’t very long precisely because of HER moral failings that ended our marriage, I simply said, “If everybody I worked with or went to church with had to be perfect, I wouldn’t have anyone to go to church with or work with.”
This practice of criticizing and “canceling” those who don’t meet our standards has a way of coming back to bite us. More and more people every day on the Left are ripe for being bitten. I hope it happens soon.

Disavowing and dishonoring the founder does not reform a white supremacist organization.
If the KKK were to disavow Nathan Bedford Forrest it would still be a white supremacist organization.
The same applies to other white supremacist organizations like Sierra Club, Planned Parenthood, the Democrat Party, and Yale University.
It is arguably sufficient for certain geographic locations like “New York” to merely change their names to no longer commemorate slave traders like the Duke of York.
However, if they genuinely wish to repudiate their legacy of white supremacy, white supremacist organizations must do much more than just change their name or dishonor their founders. They must disband, sell their assets, liquidate their endowments and pension funds, and distribute the proceeds to the persons of color who they have harmed.
Some may object that concrete action would be unfair to the contributors and employees of such institutions and would undeservedly benefit people of color who were not themselves enslaved or harmed by Jim Crow laws. Perhaps so. But we are all better off without white supremacist institutions like the KKK, the Sierra Club, the Democrat Party, and Yale University.

PP was all too willing to accept donations targeted to killing black babies from a caller who’d identified himself as a bigot who wanted to reduce the number of black people coming into this world.
THE WHOLE organization is corruption and genocidal, not just at its founding.
Right you are. One problem is, Christianity and the Christian church is becoming more and more misunderstood by the minute in this country. That is partly because fewer people attend, and partly because Christianity is routinely slandered by the media and those who are “enlightened”. I grow to hate this world more every day.
