Hackers Convinced Twitter Employee to Help Them Hijack Accounts
Vice/Motherboard ^ | 7-15-2020 | Joseph Cox

A Twitter insider was responsible for a wave of high profile account takeovers on Wednesday, according to leaked screenshots obtained by Motherboard and two sources who took over accounts.

On Wednesday, a spike of high profile accounts including those of Joe Biden, Elon Musk, Bill Gates, Barack Obama, Uber, and Apple tweeted cryptocurrency scams in an apparent hack.

"We used a rep that literally done all the work for us," one of the sources told Motherboard. The second source added they paid the Twitter insider. Motherboard granted the sources anonymity to speak candidly about a security incident. A Twitter spokesperson told Motherboard that the company is still investigating whether the employee hijacked the accounts themselves or gave hackers access to the tool.

The accounts were taken over using an internal tool at Twitter, according to the sources, as well as screenshots of the tool obtained by Motherboard. One of the screenshots shows the panel and the account of Binance; Binance is one of the accounts that hackers took over today. According to screenshots seen by Motherboard, at least some of the accounts appear to have been compromised by changing the email address associated with them using the tool.

It also looks like it proves that Twitter is colluding with the Democrat National Committee to influence the election.

More completely, Jack Dorsey said before Congress that they were not.

So will he be charged with lying to Congress?

Asking for Roger Stone.

Looks like convenient destruction or contamination of evidence.

Defense attorneys are cheering.

Dirty judges are relieved.

Actually, some in the top level of Twitter have to wonder if the same crew accessed their emails, and connect the dots back to the DNC, in a personal way.

Makes you wonder who staged this and the agenda involved. Maybe the North Koreans? Maybe some 15-year old kid in Kansas? Maybe the Chinese? Maybe Baron Trump on a Saturday evening?

Roger Stone should have plenty of info for his next media interview.

I assume that Jack has headed off to Africa for the next six months.

Twitter is on a course to end the “platform” carve-out for social media. It amazes me that a company worth so much money cannot control their highly paid employees, but they cannot. Every day we are treated to some new form of partisan censorship. I used to think we should allow the market to sort it out, but I no longer feel that way because it is so blatant and pervasive. It is also pretty effective.

“This proves that anybody can be bought. If the price is right.”

Or tricked. Engineering humans into giving up info is easier than engineering the technology itself. People are the weakest security link.

Couldn’t have happened to a nicer company. I wish Twitter nothing but pure hell on earth.
Hopefully the hackers stole plenty of compromising info about the evil machinations of Twitter and the DNC that they will release over the next 3 months.
WikiLeaks II.

It appears that Twitter does allegedly have the capability to shadow ban selected users through a blacklist button on the backend of the companies website. It allegedly was discovered through the recent hacking incident that left some of Twitter’s biggest account holders exposed, as well as some of the companies operations
