I didn’t know what a Lolita was. Had to look it up. I saw a movie once, I thought it was the girl’s name. Apparently not.

I either read or saw an interview of Nabokov discussing his novel Lolita (1955) and he said one of the things that struck him most about America (he emigrated here in 1940) was how our culture sexualizes children. It really shocked him.

What high school English teachers do with the book is entirely on them.

This happened in schools when I was a yute. Also, The Police tune “Don’t Stand so Close to Me” makes specific reference to “that book by Nabakov (1980). Sting, by the way, was an English teacher, before he made it big.
