I either read or saw an interview of Nabokov discussing his novel Lolita (1955) and he said one of the things that struck him most about America (he emigrated here in 1940) was how our culture sexualizes children. It really shocked him.

This happened in schools when I was a yute. Also, The Police tune “Don’t Stand so Close to Me” makes specific reference to “that book by Nabakov (1980). Sting, by the way, was an English teacher, before he made it big.
