Like many other industries, entertainment companies have issued statements of support for the protests against racism and police brutality now filling Americas streets. But theres something Hollywood can do to put its money where its social media posts are: immediately halt production on cop shows and movies and rethink the stories it tells about policing in America.
For a century, Hollywood has been collaborating with police departments, telling stories that whitewash police shootings and valorizing an action-hero style of policing over the harder, less dramatic work of building relationships with the communities cops are meant to serve and protect. Theres a reason for that beyond a reactionary streak hiding below the industrys surface liberalism. Purely from a dramatic perspective, crime makes a story seem consequential, investigating crime generates action, and solving crime provides for a morally and emotionally satisfying conclusion.
The result is an addiction to stories that portray police departments as more effective than they actually are; crime as more prevalent than it actually is; and police use of force as consistently justified. There are always gaps between reality and fiction, but given what policing in America has too often become, Hollywoods version of it looks less like fantasy and more like complicity.
Theres no question that it would be costly for networks and studios to walk away from the police genre entirely. Canceling Dick Wolfs Chicago franchise of shows would wipe out an entire night of NBCs prime-time programming; dropping Law & Order: Special Victims Unit and a planned spinoff would cut even further into the lineup.

shut down all movies about politicians and reporters while you’re at it.
Photo of the beloved famous Mister Ed....
Little known trivia:
Mister Ed and AOC share the same orthodontist.
I think Ed got the better deal.
I don’t get it.
All those Shows make White Conservatives and Businessmen the Criminals and Minority Liberals the Victims...
It’s like Hitler telling Goebbels’s to tell the truth.
Nothing new here. The Left always — always! — overreaches and they destroy pretty much whatever they touch.
Plenty of it to see right here on FR. Look at me, Im in the (gutless, mushy) middle!
We are compadres up to a point. I do NOT believe the in computer, smartphone crazed world of today. I am a Luddite.
I own complete dvd sets of Dragnet (not "most" as some sets), Adam-12, the Untouchables, CHipS, Peter Gunn, Mr. Lucky, Mike Hammer and others. And CDs.
As the great Al Kooper (played organ on B Bringing It All Back Home) pleaded with young people: "Listen to me, don't let someone else own your music."
First, Netflix, Hulu, YouTube et al TV show all kinds of movies and TV shows and you get thousands of songs streaming by subscription. Then, they speed up the dropping off of ones from certain new studio deals (Kill Bill will be your most recent release date to watch) or record label deals or sale of big companies to foreign ( German or Chinese) concerns and then reduction of availability or cancellations.
As I said to medical assistant woman: "Fine, what if your music source if later bought by an Arab corporation and they rule no songs by any woman who does not dress in modest attire? Or bans an artist who made statements they don't agree with?" Bob Dylan was stopped from performing in China until the Chicom heads could read detailed lists of songs and full lyrics to make sure none would criticize them. He finally agreed. "Chimes of Freedom" not about Hong Kong freedom, is it?" "No, commissars. Not at all, sirs."
I largely agree with you on having hard copy of my programming. I bought one of those Mormon Clearplay DVD/Bluray players to facilitate watching newer movies. I don’t have all the shows you have, but I did get the A-Team for my kids, the Prisoner, complete Rockford Files and Perry Mason, plus individual seasons of Green Acres, Get Smart, the Fugitive, Maverick, Superman (for the kids) and F-Troop. When traveling, MeTV usually has “The Rifleman” on, that will do in a pinch. I marvel that I can pick from 70 years of the best television at under a dollar per episode.
Get Smart, Green Acres, Maverick....
I think you are one of those “best friends of mine whom I have never met.”
Not that I didn't expect this. The upcoming Terrorist/Communist regime is now already censoring TV through pressure....and we have to eat it.
What else is coming....will Tucker's show be expunged....or Fox's broadcasts will be monitored and threatened...or what else....????
This is BIG news, folks....even if you don't watch these shows. It's another power grab and horrendous slam against Police plus it's the first outright attack on our freedom to watch and hear what we want to through the air waves.
Will Rush be next?......
This is big, important (and scary) breaking news.
Lock & load!
I am having trouble this anti-cop charade by the libs is gonna help them in November elections..coming up fast.
In the meanwhile the 30+ subpoena’s issued by Senate judiciary committee will show the nation of the crooked Obama admin shenanigans.
Very interesting, critical elections coming up in 5 months. In his 2nd term, Trump-unleashed will be something I can’t hardly wait for!
Hope your doing well.
So all new shows will only be lib approved and highly scrutinized according as to how high they rate on a virtue signaling scale. Since most won’t watch that junk, including leftists, advertising will become 100% wokevertising funded through liberal blackmail.
