Thanks so much, Flick, that was so clear and explanatory! And you explained the exact thing that scared me about those bikes: the minimum insertion point on the seat tube, but when I read your explanation, I realized, one could use a longer seat tube to get enough into the tube on the body of the bike.

Gotta admit, it will probably be a used bike because I’m on a WalMart bike budget :( but I know how those fall apart.

Thanks again!

'The new toilet paper:' Bikes are flying off shelves, overwhelming shops Washington, DC (CNN)Eric Attayi, owner of the Urban Bicycle Gallery in Houston, Texas, has watched the pandemic transform his shop in a way most businesses can only dream of. Bicycles are selling before he has time to assemble them for display. Attayi said he'd matched his 2019 sales by the start of May. He's had to hire new employees to meet demand, and hasn't taken a day off since February. Attayi said he'd given raises and started buying lunch for his stressed staff

I mostly deal with low-end or older bikes in need of repair, and part themselves have seen a great increase. Last year and until about 2 months ago I was able to buy 70mm V brakes pads (with nut and washers) for about $1.00 a pair, thanks be to God, and now the lowest price is twice that. Likewise most other parts. Meanwhile Walmart bikes under $150 are non-existent or out of stock.

My pleasure!

You might check local bike shops for used bikes. Some shops take trade-ins which they then sell. Sometimes shops also have demo bikes for sale at discount.

Got to pick up my Trek from the local bike shop. My back rim was bent. Love the bike... Going to hit the trail this weekend.

This is the seat I bought for my Mongoose Dolomite E-Bike conversion. Extremely comfortable without looking bulky and ponderous. Five stars!

BikeCo., the North American distributor of Fuji bikes, has suspended sales of bikes to police forces, citing recent reports of police bikes being used as weapons at protest marches.

Just out of curiosity - why spend so much on a lighter frame when your goal is to get exercise? I buy an off the rack decent bike and will actually deflate the tires a bit to get more aerobic exercise.

Preference. I've had flatbar bikes built from the frame up in the past off of 2006 Klein Reve X and 2007 Trek Pilot 5.0 road bike framesets. I found it more enjoyable to ride bikes that weighed around 20 lbs instead of the typical 26-28 lb hyrbid, and I like the benefits of the frame and fork being able to dampen road vibrations.

The Trek was all carbon, while the Klein (my favorite) was with their ZR9000 aluminum tubing, carbon stays and fork, and their S.P.A. integrated rear frame spring. The latter rode like a fast Cadillac. I guess I like to enjoy my ride while I am getting my exercise.

10.6 mile last Panther ride today,

Four years ago after not riding for decades, I bought Panther (name of the company that made it) used, after seeing my daughter riding her bicycle.

I had many great rides but last year I bought a new bicycle (Pegasus) and I don't have room in my storage for a bicycle that I don't ride anymore.

Today I took Panther on a last ride and then left it at a busy train station with a sign: Free bicycle for taking.

I shed a couple of tears in the last 100 yards.
stupid bicycle.

18 mile ride today,
Told my wife this morning that one of the two graffiti walls (where street artists do their thing) near us was torn down (to build luxury condos next to the river, no doubt).
She said there was a news report that a George Floyd memorial was painted at a graffiti wall in Mauerpark, a place that I had not been to.

I decided to check it out today and do some exploring.
Unfortunately the George Floyd art piece was defaced by the time I got there:

This is outside a museum we been to that has old armor and weapons from Knights:

This ship took less than 10 minutes to get through the lock. Wish I videoed it:

Today's fountains:

When I see an old graveyard I like to stop and enter to find soldier graves... and I found one!:

I really liked this Jesus statue:

Can you see what I saw?

ZOOMED:

I made it to the base camp (That's exploring!):

Turned out the graffiti wall is up a steep hill:
