Any quick history lesson about how owners in sports have acted over time, how theyve interacted with communities and governments and public coffers and everything else will tell you that greed dictates basically whatever they try to do, Bryant Gumbel bluntly says of the motivation behind leagues like the NFL, NBA, MLB and the NHL to get their players back in action from the coronavirus lockdown of the past two months.
I think they view athletes as commodities to get them to an end, the host of HBOs Real Sports added.
Never one to play it safe over the 25-seasons of the premium cablers Real Sports with Bryant Gumbel, the Emmy winning host tonight will be having a remote roundtable on the re-starting of pro sports in this deadly era of COVID-19 with players association bosses DeMaurice Smith of the NFL, Michele Roberts of the NBA, and Tony Clark of MLB. That pre-recorded talk comes as the Tiger Woods and Tom Brady starring The Match: Champions for Charity golf game pulled in hole in one ratings over the weekend for the HBOs cousin stations TNT, TBS, truTV and HLN and the NHL unveiled multi-pronged plans on Tuesday to get skates back on the ice by the summer.

I’m not going to be lectured about greed by a Democrat.
Bryant Gumbel has always been a FAR left a-hole.
Gumbel is right - if the leagues don’t play, they have to give back and/or forfeit the TV and advertising revenue... and that’s the meal ticket that justifies inflated franchise values and big salaries.
We are playing. You wanna come out have at it. You dont fine. Its a free freaking country, at least it used to be. Gumbel can pull his head out and stick his commentary up his anal orfice. Game On!!
I stopped reading at Bryant Gumbel.
Even his own mother said she wished he had never been born.
If there are no sports, what is going to pay for his broadcast salary?
His salary is based on his Networks profits.
No sports. No profits. No salaries.

If he was paid what he was worth he would understand the point of view of people who depend on a paycheck coming in.
Bryant Gumball.
Certified Slime.
Bryant Gumball is still alive? Thought he died decades ago.
What happened to the XFL ?
yes...I agree....the players don’t need to play and they don’t need to make their millions.....its for their safety afterall....I’m sure the players will gladly give up their millions for a little safety....NOT!
When I was growing up and Gumbel was on the Today Show, my mom said he sounds like his undershorts are two sizes too small
My thoughts exactly!
Who knew?
He should quit, renounce sports, and give all that has to the poor.
Athletes are still non essential. Wait until September 2021 to reopen sports.
He has ALWAYS been an asshole.
Is that D-bag still getting camera time?
