(CNN) Sixteen former Watergate prosecutors have told a federal judge he has the authority to sentence former Trump national security adviser Michael Flynn to prison despite the Justice Department's effort to toss the case.
The filings add prominent voices to the backlash against Attorney General William Barr's softening of criminal prosecutions against President Donald Trump's associates.
In legal memos sent to the court on Monday and obtained by CNN, the former prosecutors essentially laid out the legal footing they believe Judge Emmet Sullivan has to reject the dismissal request and sentence Flynn, who had pleaded guilty to lying to the FBI.
They compared the current situation at the Justice Department to Watergate, the scandal and criminal investigation that led to the President Richard Nixon's resignation.
The group, calling themselves friends of the court or "amici" in legal parlance, "experienced the 'Saturday Night Massacre,' during which an honorable Attorney General and an honorable Deputy Attorney General resigned or were dismissed rather than obey the instructions of a self-interested President to frustrate the work of an independent Special Prosecutor," they wrote to the judge.

We need to FLOOD Sullivans office with letters and calls!! He really needs to be EXPOSED for the DIRTY DEMOCRAT he is!
Calling the judge means nothing.
You call elected officials, a lot. That’s how you deal with this.
You have to call and demand laws that have teeth afpgaibpnst intel abuses.
Short of that, shooting at your foot makes more sense. Call ELECTED OFFICIALS.
I was, I think, 5 when watergate happened. #### the lawyers and politicians and anybody else involved in that ancient s###
we got REAL crimes being committed by ex presidents, ex and maybe current CIA and ex president’s satanic wives and helpers.
Good grief
He wont care about our letters or calls, he has received his orders.
The judge violated court rules. The Supreme Court will reverse. In the meantime, let the Deep Staters expose themselves.
This is total BS.
This is not a political clearance (as the Dems do all the time) evidence has appeared to show that Flynn was politically prosecuted based on falsified evidence.
The continuation of this case by political prosecution (and thats what this is) IS corruption at its highest level.
Of course I wont point out that when the attorney general refused to defend prop 8 on California that no judge asked for amicus briefs and, in fact, refused to allow the citizens of California to defend it because they didnt have standing.
This is a mockery of justice by any definition and an outright violation of the constitution by Democrats - what else is new?
Trump will pardon if the judge sentences.
Sorry, but if he gets NO HEAT, then he thinks all is OK!
There is nothing before the Supreme Court. There is nothing to reverse.
Judge Sullivan is breaking the federal rules of procedure on allowing a third party submission. That reeks. He will see ethic complaints and opposition filed.
Counsel for Gen. Flynn has already filed a scathing opposition.

Stop telling people to waste time and effort complaining about a judicial process on a federal motion.
The action needed is to have people call and complain to elected not judicial officials about intel actions in FBI and DOJ, etc.
Laws and penalties must be updated and penalties upgraded.
But if you want to waste people’s time and discourage them then ok.
Their hate still seethes.

They sound more like the wild eyed staffers from back then.
If the DOJ doesn’t prosecute, there is no case. Period.
“They sound more like the wild eyed staffers from back then.”
Bet they are all demonkraps. So this isn’t news. It is an attempt to to influence the misinformed, to blunt the impact of the news that obozo was in on the obstruction of justice by setting up Flynn. As Nancy Pelosi said, no one is above the law.
He has received is orders
But on the flip side - how often is it that a judge rules against a defendant, even after the prosecution has dropped the charges? I'm betting it's close to zero.

Yes. the junior lawyers that handed papers from the 2nd row to the ones sitting at the table giving testimony or arguing in court. IOW’s go-fers. Like Hillary Rodham was, come to think of it. And look how OLD she is!
“If the DOJ doesnt prosecute, there is no case. Period.”
That doesn’t matter for the defendant if the the judge has not allowed Flynn to withdraw his plea that was negotiated with a prosecutor tricked the defendant into pleading guilty and who lied to the court?
