A Spring Hill nail salon reopened on Friday 1 May after Gov. DeSantis' "Safer At Home" order expired with no substantive renewal put in its place. The owner of the salon was not taking walk-ins and only took appointments from known customers with the request that they wear masks when coming in. The salon took precautions similar to what you'd see at grocery stores, WalMart, Target, Home Depot, etc.: acrylic "shields" at all of the manicure stations, full wipe down and thorough cleaning of pedicure stations, workers wore masks at all times, and patrons were kept at distance from one another by keep one station open between them.
After a full day of limited business on Friday, they opened again Saturday with appointment-holding patrons coming in for an hour or so apiece. Sometime after noon, the owner received an anonymous call from a New Port Richey phone number warning them that they shouldn't be open and that they're violating the governor's orders. An hour later, five uniformed police officers showed up, blocked patrons from coming in, and ordered all business cease immediately. The salon was forced to close just before 5:00 and remain closed until further notice.
This is a serious overreach by local law enforcement, IMO. DeSantis has made no announcements above forced closure remaining in place, and there even stories in the local media of establishments such as gyms re-opening despite the lack of guidance on the part of our state government. We are a relatively small town about 50 miles north of Tampa, and in Hernando county specifically, there have been fewer than 100 reported cases. Hernando county is a majority farmland, and most of us have gone about our business normally since all of this hullaballoo started.
I hope the Hernando county sheriff is forced to answer for this, and whoever called in the complaint should be ashamed of themselves. This is a small business just trying to get their people back to work. They went above and beyond to ensure patron safety, and shutting them down is tantamount to petty tyranny IMO.
Errr....
Not sure if you’re commenting on my choice of pampering or if you think there’s a conflict of interest in my reporting.
DeSantis met with salon owners, barbers, nail parlor folks, etc. today in Tallahassee. I think theyll be open soon and anybody who opened earlier wont have a problem.
Yeah, it would be that right there.
I’m going to guess it about your choice of pampering :D
As far as this story goes, this is outrageous.
Squash this BS, Governor DeSantis, please.
We need to remember what the original purpose of this shutdown was.
I enjoy a monthly massage too, is that over the top, humblegunner? Should I prepare to turn in my man card? Heh
” the Hernando county sheriff “
Hope all you want. In the meantime, start a recall movement. Throw the SOB out. His position is not hereditary. Along with that, advocate zeroing out his budget and going to a citizen self protection regime.
Obviously having this oaf around is counterproductive: why are his “deputies” doing this instead of protecting private property and preventing violence?
Need names and phone numbers, etc of local LE.
No hes a dick and probably referring to; “my wife and I regulars”
vs “are regulars.”
Like I said.....
Some animals are more equal than others.
American police are FBI wannabes...they desperately want to be held in the same contempt.
Yes, I did mean “My wife and I are regulars...”
Apologies for the mistype.
But HG likes to bust chops, and I’m okay with that. I knew what I was getting into with this crowd. :D
I’ve found HCSO and even Pasco County SO to be polite and professional. Both counties are blighted with drug issues, and they’re often arresting abusers. For the most part, we don’t see or hear much about murders or rapes in our area. This is a pretty quiet agricultural/rural/suburban area.
most knew that..Lots of(too many) grammar and spell cops around.
A violation of “The right of assembly”.
A violation of “The right of assembly”.
I’d expect nothing less of HG... LOL!
