Based upon the figures seen, the deaths from Wuhan Covid-19 are about the same number or less thin the U.S. as compared to the 2014 Flu pandemic.
If anyone is to blame for short sightedness and incompetence it would be our 44th president who failed in handling the 2014 pandemic and the preparations to combat the next pandemic. This also goes for those governors where the Covid-19 has hit hardest.

well to state the obvious. NY has about half the reported (not confirmed) covid19 deaths in the nation.
my hypothesis is that there is overcounting imo everywhere except where there is competent testing (for example, santa clara co has more accurate numbers because stanford university and hospital is there doing the bulk of the early testing) and where the health authorities (medical examiners office) are competent as well.
santa clara was also urban and hard hit early by the virus according to the news so you could argue that this county would be a good bell weather for what to expect from covid19 everywhere in the us. so i went to santa clara county (with a pop of 2M) to get my basic covid19 numbers for extrapolation about covid19. imo, their count of deaths and other numbers including testing is likely far more trustworthy and accurate than say nyc’s or ny state’s, where apparently chaos ensues in all things medical.
using stanford and santa clara numbers and my own assumptions and static calculations, i get about a rate of about 2% additional deaths per year expected due to covid19.
thus based on population on average per year, ny state should have had about 9000 total, cumulative for 3 mos, additional deaths due to covid19 by my static calcs (maybe you could even add 5000 more to account for the growth in spread of covid19 early on). so you could guess about 14000 worst case covid19 for the whole state in 3-4 mos. but, they have reported 24,368 cumulative deaths for about 3 months.
so basically you could say conservatively one-third to one-half of their numbers represent a massive over/miss count of covid19 deaths, imo.
possible reasons for ny state mis-counting:
1. lack of accurate testing, resulting in assigning co-morbid deaths or completely unrelated deaths to covid19.
2. wrong cause of death.
3. factors facilitating additional spread of covid19 in nyc.
4. intentional reports of wrong cause of death padding the numbers for political reasons.
5. basic incompetence in the whole health reporting system in ny.
6. etc., etc.
additionally we can likely add many other other states to the massive over counting due to these factors, so the 60,000 deaths number is imo grossly overstated and is probably more like half that number, in reality.
all the more reason to sanction China
