The Swedish city of Lund is to spread chicken manure in its central park in an effort to deter crowds gathering for a festival.
Tens of thousands of people usually descend on southern city to celebrate Walpurgis Night, which is marked across Scandinavia.
But officials want to keep people away because of the coronavirus outbreak.
There is no lockdown in Sweden, where data show most people have taken to voluntary social distancing.
"Lund could very well become an epicentre for the spread of the coronavirus on the last night in April," the chairman of the local council's environment committee, Gustav Lundblad, told the Sydsvenskan newspaper.
Defending the decision to spread a ton of chicken manure in the park, he said: "We get the opportunity to fertilise the lawns, and at the same time it will stink and so it may not be so nice to sit and drink beer."
The origins of Walpurgis Night date back to pagan celebrations of spring.

I reallly don’t think the hippies and hipsters would notice..
Chicken Schiff is absolutely the worst smelling farm animal crap there is
I hear ya.. pigs and cattle are pretty bad but chicken manure can get pretty nasty, foul indeed.
Ever been to a pig farm during an August heat wave?
Second worst. Pig is worse. Liquid pig litter will do the job maybe too much.
Stink in order from least to worst...
Horse
Cow
human
chicken
pig
But it all stinks.
why yes, yes I have
And I’ve smelled chicken Schiff manure being spread on fields too
No comparison, IMHO
I’ll see your “chicken manure” and raise to “duck manure!”
I’m gagging just thinking about it.
Considering the portion of the population the Swedes are having a problem with, Pig manure might not be a bad idea.
Do Snowshoes come in Big & Tall sizes?
I think they call it Walpurgis night because if you have too much vodka, it makes you walpurgis (Barf on a wall)
As long as they don’t get it on their faces. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NZxjmhwogCk
We will agree to disagree.
I personally have never smelled anything quite as bad as a fermenting pig manure retaining pond in high summer.
I also lived near a chicken and duck egg farm and found that to be not nearly as bad.
Witches gather at black massesThats from Walpurgis, a demo song by Black Sabbath; it eventually got turned into War Pigs.
Bodies burning in red ashes
On the hill, the church in ruins
Is the scene of evil doings
Its the place for all black sinners
Watch them eating dead rats innards
Ah, I guess its the same
Wherever you may go
Oh Lord, yeah!
Heh, my town had a pig farm on the east side of the town, and the boys who were raised there were crazy. They smelled like pigs no matter how much they washed, and you could smell the pig farm from the other side of town if the wind wasn’t against it.
We had a big Thanksgiving Day Football high school rivalry with the next town over, one of the older ones in our state. So, in high school, there were a few shenanigans.
One of the pig farm boys spray painted profane things about the opposing team on his piece of crap car while the opposing football players were congregating in the rotary trying to provoke someone. On the second time around the rotary as obscenties and gestures were being passed and the opposing football players were edging into the rotary, the gas tank on the guy’s car came off and he managed not to get the tar beat out of him!
Or so I was told...:)
Wow! There you go. San Francisco can do it with human manure.
Shovel it up and give it back to them.
At home.
