A biotech company said Wednesday its experimental drug has proved effective against the new coronavirus in a major U.S. government study that put it to a strict test.
Gilead Sciences’s remdesivir would be the first treatment to pass such a test against the virus, which has killed more than 218,000 people since it emerged late last year in China. Having a treatment could have a profound effect on the global pandemic, especially because health officials say any vaccine is likely a year or more away.
The study, run by the National Institutes of Health, tested remdesivir versus usual care in about 800 hospitalized coronavirus patients around the world. The main result is how long it takes patients to recover.
California-based Gilead gave no details on results Wednesday, but said an announcement is expected soon. NIH officials did not immediately reply to a request for comment.
A statement from the Food and Drug Administration says only that the agency has been talking with Gilead “regarding making remdesivir available to patients as quickly as possible, as appropriate.”

and Yes, just last week, a certain report surfaced that wasn’t glowing .. or complete per the vendor.
The market forces use the media to line their pockets .. while QE is used to keep the herd tranquilized.
There is no big money to be made with old mainstays like HCQ is my suspicion. So, let’s use trials or ignore them to move investors one way or the other.
Hey AP- studies and trials also show that HCQ works tremendously well ,and is tremendously well tolerated and safe too-

Because, as I have found from the local level all the way to the national and even world levels, certain people through relationships are the ones designated to make money. The “right” people will make money off of Remdesivir and the “wrong” people would make money off of HCQ. It’s pretty simple.
Guess what? An AP article without a hint of snarkiness or bothering to point out that the company who stands to make billions is the one to make the announcement.

I was skeptical of the “Big Pharma” rationale for quite a while and the fact that HCQ is long off-patent. But I’ve come around to agreeing with the hypothesis that Big Pharma is pushing the $1,000 treatment new drug vs the $15 treatment old drug.
It sounds like there is lots of money to be made with the new patent drug and zero money to be made with the old, off-patent drug. From the preliminary results, it appears their effectiveness is about the same.
I was skeptical of this theory for quite a while, but sadly have come around to agree with it. So many factors at work here: Big pharma, investors hungry for returns, regulatory capture, Trump derangement, only a few lone voices arguing for the cheap, proven off-patent HCQ, innumerate journalists completely incapable of critical thought on anything that requires technical thinking or analysis.
Griffters and Ghouls running the crisis.
Because Fauci can’t get any kickbacks from an old, no longer patented drug. Anyone who’s worked at the top of any fedgov agency has been bought and paid for.
