Back in the late 1960's or 1970's there was a movie about a family that went into a bomb shelter because of a nuclear attack. Months later the father went outside and discovered that it was all a hoax. There was no nuclear fallout. It was all about the power of fear. Exchange the bomb shelter for a face mask. Does anyone remember the title of the movie? Maybe it was a Twilight Zone episode?
There was a late 90’s comedy film called “Blast from the Past”. Pretty funny, actually.
I think it was the 80’s! I remember it.I think a plane actually crashed in their backyard.
Blast form the Past? But that is a 1999 movie.
This is not the movie, but at the end of THX 1138 someone climbs out of the protective shell and a bird is flying by.
Yes, Blast from the Past. Christopher Walken played the dad. I love that guy.
“The Year of Covid-19”? Currently playing.
IMDB lists 123 bomb shelter movies
Yup... Except for the date then you are describing “Blast from the past”.

harry dean stanton looks so sad.
Weren’t they trying to get us to seal up our windows with trash bags and tape to protect against bio/nerve/toxin attack in the 2000s?
Surely that would’ve been a “shelter in place” scenario.
(2003)

Xlnt episode showing the veneer of civility breaking when personal survival is at stake.
It’s from 1999. That was a great movie. Sissy Spacek played the Mother, Christopher Walken played the Dad, and Brendan Fraser played their son.
I always liked this Phillip K. Dick story about fear stoked bomb shelter consumerism.

Not what you are asking about, but there was a cool Mission Impossible episode where they tricked guys in a bomb shelter that a blast had occurred.
LOL strange how the answer just pops into mind, when at other times one must search.
Blast from the Past was the first thought here as well. (Darn! and you beat me to it ! :-)
Thanks! Whenever I go to the grocery store and see people in masks, too often I see fear in their eyes. That is a terrible way to live. This “lock down” has had a terrible impact upon our nation in so many ways in such a short amount of time. Wake up America! Don’t let them (the power hungry tyrants) steal our country away from us.
