It’s happening at all levels of gov’t all across this country. The basic gov’t bureaucrat instinct to totalitarianism is showing up nearly everywhere.

To the best of my knowledge, it was rejected.

Well back in the 90s, Clinton era, Freeping was a thing. I even went to a couple of rallies... Rode my Harley, with the wife, and a US flag mounted on the tail. Nobody knew who I was, but just riding up and honking the horn got a big cheer. Good times!
Back when “mother’s against guns” or whatever they were called back then mounted a march. Of course, I was with the counter-protest.
Here’s another one to add:
Covidiot - One who believes that sparing the handful of people who might die from COVID-19 is worth surrendering every God-given right we enjoy and destroying the economy.
