After two deaths on board, Coral Princess cruise ship gets Miami welcome
Orlando Sentinel ^ | April 4, 2020 | Marc Freeman

Posted on 04/04/2020 2:53:57 PM PDT by Capt. Tom

The final voyage of the Coral Princess to PortMiami on Saturday morning was a race against time to get urgent care for multiple passengers suffering from the new coronavirus.

Two people had already died — including a woman from South Carolina on Friday night — while last-minute negotiations shifted the cruise ship from its first-choice destination, Port Everglades in Fort Lauderdale.

Officials quickly devised a plan signed just before the ship docked: Take nearly 1,000 healthy travelers — screened and wearing masks — directly to Miami International Airport for flights home; bring four extremely sick passengers (including at least one American) to hospitals in Miami and Tampa; and leave dozens of passengers and crew members with less severe symptoms on board for treatment by doctors and nurses.snip….

Our Coast Guard says there are 41 Cruise ships close to US waters.

Even if these ships don't have Americans onboard, if the foreign crews get deathly sick , some decisions will have to be made. - tom

This is known?

Cruise ships are floating petri dishes. The Chinese Virus is not the first disease to sweep through these ships. Norovirus has been a huge problem on cruise ships for several years.

The cruise ship business has brought in hundreds of millions of dollars and same amount of taxes to Miami and Ft Lauderdale, so they are owed and so are the passengers. Florida can show the world that they can rescue people safely, send them home on flights and enhance Florida’s
reputation.

Florida gets enough razzing over the shenanigans of “Florida Man”. The kind that calls 911 because his Burger King fries were cold.

'so they are owed and so are the passengers.'

What does that mean? They are a Bermuda flagged vessel. Bermuda needs to get a handle on their ships floating around US waters.

The passengers are owed nothing unless they boarded in mid January. If 99% of them boarded in the last two weeks. They can swing at anchor as long as it takes as far as I’m comcerned.

Anyone who boarded a cruise ship in March is a moron and deserves their fate. America is to be protected from such people.

And it helps Carnival that also owns several other cruise lines including Princess; that Carnival is headquartered in MIAMI. -Tom

The US entity Carnival Corporation is incorporated in Panama, and its operational headquarters are located in the city of Doral, Florida.

Not an American company. They incorporated in Panama to avoid taxes.

It’s not like no one has ever died on a cruise ship like the Coral. The Grand lost its 1st crew member a couple days ago.

You can see someone eating a fine dinner all decked out one night.. in the reefer the next few days or until debarkation.

One sad fact is many of those aboard the ships asea .. many are seniors w/ medical conditions (who isn’t these days?).

Carnival keeps their corporate headquarters in Miami.

Like any business, they are in it to make money .
The cruise industry has a lot of jobs created by necessity, and by avoiding for the most part our USA Labor Laws, Rules and Regulations , law enforcement, taxes, lawsuits, lawyers, etc.-it helps the bottom line. -Tom

They will re-decorate, re-paint & re-name it and it will be back on the cruise list.

The company is incorporated in Panama. They should get their help on the Panamanian government. It doesn’t matter that they have an outpost of one of their subsidiaries in Florida. Also, 90% of the workers are foreign
