LAFAYETTE, Colo. (KDVR) The family of a Lafayette man who died from coronavirus complications has a warning to others: take the threat seriously.
"You know, I was one of the ones who downplayed it and thought it was funny, reading the memes and making jokes about it," admits Myke Rivera, whose father Dan Vigil died Sunday at a hospital in Lafayette.
"You know, it hits you right in the face, how quickly it happens," Rivera told FOX31s Jeremy Hubbard.
About 10 days ago, Vigil was experiencing symptoms and had to be rushed by ambulance to the emergency room.
"Basically, they had to put him into a coma," Rivera said.
The speed at which Vigil's health deteriorated is what strikes his family. Within days, Vigil was gravely ill. His wife April was put in quarantine because of her exposure. The family was forced to be apart while making the most heartbreaking decision of their lives: the decision to take Vigil off life support.
"And I think the hardest thing was that we couldn't see him. My mom couldn't see him. We couldn't see my mom. She's still quarantined at home. You know, I (get) to chat with my mom through a window. How do you take that and how do you talk about that with your mom when you can't even be face-to-face with her, over the phone or on text, the conversations? I mean, that's the hardest thing in the world - this is the hardest thing I've ever had to do," Rivera said.
Now, even in their grief, the family is still forced to be apart.

recorded 23 March 2020. Dr. John Ioannidis interviewed by John Kirby, The Press and The Public Interest:
AUDIO: 1hr2m46: 25 Mar: Youtube: Perspectives on the Pandemic with Dr. John Ioannidis
In this extended interview, Dr. John Ioannidis of Stanford University cautions that we do not have reliable data to make long-term decisions about COVID-19, and that an extended lockdown might have far graver effects than the disease itself.
Use this index to jump to points of interest; though we do recommend taking the time to watch the full interview...

(paraphrasing) Ioannidis re the unusual media focus on COVID-19 (SARS 2.0). the fatalities would possibly have been lost in the bin of influenza numbers, provided US fatalities end up being 10,000 or even less. acknowledges the possibility it could end up being more. you have media following every death, one by one. imagine if we did that with influenza cases every year. it would be horrible. the panic component & the over-emphasis of media attention is probably making things worse. don’t panic. there’s a very high chance we are exaggerating...
I think we really have a pandemic of news stories and news clips and anecdotes about COVID-19. I don’t want to diminish its importance, but we need to get solid evidence, at a minimum...
Myke
Really?
I guess it’s like your father naming you “Sue”.
(Johnny Cash song.)
It was his father. So he was in that age the have repeatedly said are more susceptible.
Were there other factors that led to his health decline? That should be mentioned.
I know it’s not “Zyka” on the left, but my goodness.
Well, thats all the anecdotal evidence I need. Im sold.
Thanks, China.
That's always left out of these tragic, isolated deaths. Statistics are quite irrelevant when it hits your family; when it's reported all the facts should be revealed.
I live in Oregon, one of my employees mother was diagnosed with the virus.
She wasn’t tested for it and had no respiratory issues, but now she has the virus.
Take any information from the state of Washinton,Oregon, and California with a “grain of salt.”
Just wait till allergy season hits on the west coast, we’ll have 10 million cases by June.
My God. His mother had an easy birth.
LOL
The article does not mention his age or if he was diabetic ect.
I will bet a years salary he had diabetes!!!
The panic is absurd whether I catch it or not. My experience is totally irrelevant to the broader picture.
You bet we will AND every damn person with a sniffle will be overloading the ERs!!!!
You
Are
Bad
This whole thing is getting “out of hand.”
Off subject but dang i spelled were wrong.
