I have the ability to broadcast audio over the internet.

Posted on 03/21/2020 10:50:13 AM PDT by dhs12345

I have created an audio server (currently for music) that can play audio over the internet. It can be any type of audio. Not just music. The preferred audio format is mp3.

It is portable too and can be moved to any internet client.

Shoutcast. But I don’t broadcast through their service. I just use it for a LAN music server.

I created a LAN music server that uses Shoutcast. That way my family can serve our music library throughout our house on cell phones, PCs, smart TVs.

Until today, I only kept it to my LAN. But it is easy to port it out through my router. I have tested it on the WAN.

I do have limited outgoing/upload bandwidth.

Anyway, all of my music files are in mp3 format.

Not sure yet. It can broadcast any mp3. It is shoutcast.

Right now it is our home music server.

Maybe I’m missing something, but this doesn’t sound all that impressive. Anyone with their own URL (shared or dedicated) can do this. However if you’ve designed a unique user interface, that may be the difference. (Who remembers the original Napster?) Music platforms like Sound Cloud and Band Camp have been doing this for years. And there are countless commercial platforms that have made available a virtually infinite selection of mp3 “sound files,” or as I refer to them, “music.”

Might want to hold up on that. Because the copyright holders will find you... and bankrupt you. All because you can’t be allowed to compete with spotify, and still not pay the writers and artists for broadcasting their material without permission or royalties set up.

Just saying. Nice idea with the LAN, but you will be hosed if you go on the net. Want to with your own stuff you’ve published... great. And that would be a great idea for others who aren’t Taylor Swift or.....some other low talent waste of time.

Interesting. Any downside if BIG GOV/BIG PROP decides to work against you?

Plex. Synology NAS with DS Audio. Sonos. Spotify. Etc, etc, etc.

Why reinvent the wheel? All sorts of commercial solutions available.

Ya. Thanks. But it doesn’t just have to be music. Any MP3.
