You can argue either way, and find references to “prove” it is night or morning, but technically, “midnight” is a transition between days. It is neither morning nor night, today nor tomorrow. Most technical and military folks avoid confusion and say 2359/0000 or 11:59pm/12:00am. Stating “midnight tonight” is clear, while “midnight on 19 Mar 2020” is ambiguous.
